Hey, guys, what's up? As you've likely noticed, I don't post here too often anymore. It's all the fault of my teachers - feel free to snipe them at long range in your justified outrage. :P
Anyhow, my hair's been as it usually is, although my bangs seem to be growing pretty fast. The rignlets at the back of my head seem to just be vegetating, though, lol. I'm hoping they'll do something noteworthy soon, because all they're doing is feeding my fear of reaching a short terminal length. Dreadlocks will solve this, but I don't want to go the dread route at so short a length; rather, I see it as an end-of-the-line alternative to keeping my hair growing longer. A lot of girls like to touch my hair and to see how it bounces back up when they pull on it (one girl had a frisson run through her upon doing this! It was sexy, lol), and although my hair isn't primarily for getting girls, I wouldn't want it to be a hindrance to that end. Not that girls don't dig dreads, but I don't know if they'd dig them on me.
Anyway, here are some random pictures. The wet ones are from tonight. The one in this post is me being silly and (apparently) cute, lol. When I take my hair out of a ponytail, it becomes amazingly straight (and tangled up, ironically). Well, let the expedition through my dorm of dumbness begin...
Hehe, peace, everybody.
A girl did this for me. She braids better than I do; somehow, my braids are never as long as this one.
So very impressive and looks great!
Thanks a lot, man! That means a lot coming from you.
Don't mess with me.
No, really, don't mess with me.
observe lol
XD! I actually had something much like that in mind, lol. For some reason, I remind myself of Blackfire from Teen Titans in this pic. lol. Just missing the glowing eyes and the skimpy outfit. :P
I love these shots of your great, curly manlocks. Facial expression looks like its straight out of manga.
Cheers!
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
I felt spiritual taking this, somehow. It really testifies to how unifying and natural long hair is on human beings.
Dang, I'm surprised at their size and quality...they don't look so good to me. :(
All the pics are great but this is my favorite. You definitely convey a sense of peace with your longhaired self.
I see a marked difference in length from your last update. I would think you will reach that point of critical mass where the weight of the ringlets will start stretching them out and you'll really notice them looking longer.
one girl had a frisson run through her
How cool! That must have left quite an impression on her! :)
Thank you! And yes, there is a sense of inner tranquility that has been resonating inside me ever since my hair started to drop. It's just hair, many would say, but then, is it? Perhaps such feelings are just subconscious realizations of cliches and ideas (like the jata or dreadlocks of spiritual masters), but it's a wonderful feeling, nontheless. At the very least, I feel more connected with Nature, with the natural human.
The critical mass part - yes, hopefully. But as to the difference in length, that may be because my hair was in a ponytail/bun, and when I take those out, my hair becomes very straight, gaining nearly twice the length sometimes. My hair can touch my mouth when curly, though, so there does seem to be some growth. Earlier this year, it was touching my nose. I just want bangs touching my chest without stretching them. That's got to feel so awesome.
Heh, it did. :P I just wish the girls I really like would do the same!
Peace, man.
Yup. I still don't want to go outside my room with these, lol.
Try not to be so self-conscious. lol I have a few students who wear their hair in double-braids; apparently girls enjoy braiding their hair for them. ;-)
Heyyyy, there. LOL.
All the pictures are great, but I have to say that the braid looks very good. You have really come a long way and I imagine that you are going to get a lot more length without doing dreads. They can look cool, but I think maybe you look pretty cool now.
Longhair's word of the day: frisson (free-SON) noun A sudden, brief moment of excitement or fear; thrill, shudder.
You stumped me with that one!
Good luck and hope all your teachers relent soon.
Bragi
Thank you very much. I'm in no hurry to get dreads, but my hair doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get itself lower (it needs to put on weight, lol), either, so meh. It's a practice in patience, almost to the degree of a koan.
I stumped YOU? Wow, I feel faint. :P "Frisson" was one of my numerous Word of the Day words - with your love of language, I'd strongly recommend them, not to statisfy any need, but just for some ludic cogitation in an enisled phrontistery. :P
lol, what optimism. :P Thanks, though. I'll add this to the petition.
Frabjous day!
Pax
Looking great FA. I can definitely notice a difference in length from your last update. The "don't mess with me" pics look badass =) And I know what you mean about girls playing with your hair and stuff. It's another one of those things that makes you never want to go back short again =)
P.S. Yeah, I have to agree that the first time I listened to the songs on The Open Door, I wasn't really blown away by them either. Like you, it took me a few listens. Cheers and happy growing!
Hehe, right on about the girls. And thanks! I believe the length difference is mainly because my hair was pretty straight after coming out of a ponytail, but hopefully I'll reach that length with my hair still curly by next year.
Yup. I like all of the songs now, and I can't believe I didn't at first listen, but some still sound unfinished and need a bit of work, IMO, like Lachrymosa.
Peace, dude.
Troy Polamalu in the house
That's a good sign, means your hairs getting longer.
Haha, right on! Polamalu has some sick hair, and he's a freaking footballer. I always wonder how his hair doesn't get totally scruffed up and damaged. He probably fixes it a bit for pics, but still.
Thanks, man.
Peace

Your hair looks fine to me. How do you do those french braids, though? I still can't figure out how to do it lol
Perhaps as your hair continues to grow, it'll gradually look more like Amy Irving's?
or if that doesn't work, you can always braid/bun your hair and leave it like that for a couple of hours...it'll look closer to it's normal length after you undo the braids/bun. That's what my sister did (before she cut her hair to your length lol) and her hair and mine are about the same.
Thanks, man. I was just concerned about the picture's quality - I resized them a lot so they wouldn't take long to load, but their quality got pretty downgraded in the process. The originals looked a lot cleaner. And for the braids, well, for one thing, they're very difficult with dry hair. Try dampening your hair and perhaps using some gel, too, but not too much. Then, just separate them the hair to be braided into three sections (clumps for me, lol), and put the one on the left/right over the middle, then the one on the other side over the one you just put over the middle one, and so forth. It'll take a couple tries, but it's easy once you get it; it's just my curls that make it hard to do, lol.
She has nice hair in that pic (but why does she always straighten it?), but my hair is definitely more along the lines of Alana Davis. I think her hair's shorter now, like even shorter than mine, lol.
Heh, I do that a lot. Useful stuff. But it always surprises people who seem to think your hair's suddenly grown in a couple hours! One dude who was a bit high saw me, and, even though he seems me like once a day or so, suddenly asked me when I'd last gotten a haircut, lol. He had that classic, brilliant bug-eyed stare. Picture-perfect. :P
Peace
Very nice update! I guess that's what a real braid should look like, huh :)
I remember your hair having very tubed ringlets in the last updates, it looks like they've settled just a bit in this one. I guess it's getting heavy enough to pull them down a little and make it longer!
Hehe. Thanks a lot!
As for the tubes, they're still as tubular as ever (yes, I'm a surfer at heart), but the "dry" pictures I posted were taken after my hair had been released from a ponytail/bun, so they'd lost their tubiness (I wonder if that's actually a word, lol). They currently brush the back of my neck and my shoulders at their lowest points, but when unstretched, they reach nearly mid-back, or at least BSL (bra-strap length, or, as we put it, below shoulder length, lol. I don't think I qualify for bras:P). It's just a pain to wait for them to actually REACH mid-back or BSL when curly.
Peace
Hi Fallen,
your hair is coming along great - and the braids look cool as well! And, yes, I agree with you and Jason, being able to wear your hair at the length you like means a lot - like having the irrevocable permission to fully be yourself.
All the best, and, let us know how your friends reacted when they saw the braids!
Hans-Uwe
Thanks, Hans, and yes, freedom to wear your hair the way you want to is a natural display of a part of who we are. Whether we are reincarnated or not, it's so foolish to clip one's hair short (or even grow it long!) if one's true desire is for the opposite. Suppressing ourselves pleases people that we shouldn't be aiming to please in the first place, because what's the point of being made unique if we desire to be something altogether different?
That said, I'm still far too self-conscious to wear my double braids in public, so only my roommate has seen them. That said, I have pictures of them on my hi5, so that's sort of like publicity.
Peace
Hair looks great, FA! I can definitely see you with dreads down the line. I contemplated dreads years ago but never had the guts to go through with it. Mad respect to those who do, though.
Good progress, man! keep it up...
Yeah, man, dreads are a definite possibility, but I'd still much rather just have my hair long normally. Dreads would be controversial to both my friends and family, and while my hair is MY possession, I don't want to cause anyone unnecesary grief, particularly my parents. But if a day comes when I know it's the right thing to do, then there's no stopping me (well, not much, anyway, lol).
You'd probably look cool with dreads, too, but your hair is awesome as is.
Peace
Looking superb!
You're developing the classic long strands of ringlets that so long to grow.
Great progress - thanks for the update,
- Oren
Nice pics! Your curls are very cool and I especially like your "Messiah" approach. But the braids are very cool too. It's good to hear you're making success with the girls also. :D I think you should stick with the hair you have right now, it fits you very well! It's always interesting to test how far you could go until terminal but I think it looks nice as it is now.
