I was doing some research on hair products and came across the wikipedia entry for pomade: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomade
And I came across the part where it says that petroleum jelly can be used as a pomade (that's pretty much what the stuff is). I happen to have a tub of it and decided to put a little dab in to try it out. I'm a little worried what will happen when I go to wash it out tomorrow but I'm definatly liking this better than hair spray. It holds pretty well and doesn't make my scalp itchy or uncomfortable in the least. Anyone else try this or am I nuts? :D
I know a guy that used to put it in his little cousin's hair as some sort of gel or something (a pomade again, I suppose). I've never tried it, though. Doesn't it make your hair really shiny?
Yeah. It made my hair really shiny. I'm not sure if I wanna wear it out in public yet, but at least now I have some option besides a hat. :P
Hi Emmerich,
I'd think that Pommade is certainly less aggressive than hair spray. Spray contains some alcohols that might dry out your hair, and pomade helps to keep it healthy.
All the best!

Its fine to use - petroleum jelly is the base of most hair waxes and commercial pomades anyway.... dax wax for example is petroleum, mineral oil and lanolin + fragrance iirc. Water soluble waxes usually have either mineral oil or petroleum in an emulsified base which rinses away easier.
Vaseline wont harm your hair, but its not really hair nourishing - you might be better off trying lanolin or pure coconut oil - both are really thick (coconut oil is like lard in consistency... its only a liquid when its heated, or fractionated) and are good for the hair, coconut oil is fab!
