Just got it layered on the advice of a hairdresser that came round. Really quick procedure, although the snipping did make me nervous. I checked it out...not bad. As promised, it feels lighter. It's gotten rid of the knots and tangles that had me cringing in pain whenever I tried to comb it. I didn't lose any length, so don't worry. So would this in any way stunt or improve growth?
Give your thoughts...
The photos show really great long hair in the making. And it IS true.........Layering does end many hair troubles for quite a while. However, if your goal is of a longer length, Layering will hold your progress back very much. Why? Because all the hair that was cut is now much shorter and has all that distance needed to grow back again where it was when layered. Also, cutting hair does not improve growth. It demolishes it.
If you are desiring longer hair I wouldn't go the layer route. But in not doing so if snags and tangles begin again I would look for split ends and have only these hairs cut just above the splits. You might want to consider a "slight trim" at some point down the road in a year or two.
Good luck to you. Hope this helps with your question.
Hi Nocturnal,
judging from the pictures you posted three days ago and now, it is indeed not too bad. However, you might consider the length of the upper layer or your bangs the "true length". So, you maybe lost about 3-4 months worth of growth, but if the knots and tangles caused you that much pain, then you probably did the right thing.
Hair growth as such (i.e. what is taking place at the hair roots) should be unaffected.
Just make sure you use some softening products like conditioner (instead of shampoo), and, you can keep the tangling down by using any brand of "anti-frizz" or "anti-split-ends" gel (the clear oily fluid that contains dimethicone plus cyclomethicone and almost nothing else) as a leave-in conditioner.
Everything else has been said by Justin already.
Happy growth!
