Okay, so before I parted my hair down the middle, I just kind of swished my hair to my right, in sort of an emo style (I am a teen). I did that for a long time until I finally started to part it. Now, at the end of my parts on the side, the ends bend. My left side curls in so the tips of my hair are pointing to my right, and the right side of my hair curls in the same direction, with those tips pointing to the right. This would be the direction my hair went when I had it off to the side.
So now my hair is almost exactly 12 inches long on the sides, but with the curls at the end, it takes away a good inch. So, am I just going through the "awkward" phase, or has my hair potentially been permentently bent? Keep in mind, the rest of my hair is as straight as can be, until it gets to the very end.
Sounds like a similar experience I went through when I first left home at age 18. Since my dad never allowed me or my brothers to have long hair at home, I had no clue until I turned 19 that my hair actually had some nice waviness to it. Because it had always been forced to be kept super-short, I never knew it to be anything other than "pin straight". Once it started growing out and getting into the awkward stage, I just thought my hair was acting up awfully weirdly... it took me quite a while for me to eventually realize that what was happening was actually because of a natural wave to my hair!
Yes, you are indeed in the middle of the infamous "awkward stage". My recommendation? Hard as it can be to do sometimes, tell yourself that it's only temporary... So, take lots of pics while it lasts; plaster it down with gel or hairspray only when you absolutely "have to"; and, if possible, ENJOY the wild roller-coaster ride!

Since I may have answered you question in too long-winded a manner, I'll clarify: wavey hair more or less IS a "permanent bend". In other words... your hair has ALWAYS been wavey; but, you probably never knew that before, since it sounds like this is your first time growing it long! It takes some length for this to really show, --- and, yes, hair is usually curliest at the very ends. The longer it gets, though, the more the weight of it will take on a new and less wild-looking shape to it, --- so, hang in there!
A friend recently sent me a video of his buddy, who had long, shoulder length hair getting a buzzcut. He parted his hair down the middle and much to his surprise, after the buzzcut, there was a clear line or "part" line down the center...so I guess hair can stay "bent"...I imagine that as the new hair grew out the "line" disappeared.
