thinning hair

  My hair is thinning out around my hairline and temples. Is there anything that will help it grow back thicker or atleast keep what I have? I've considered Rogaine but worried about side effects. Someone mentioned a herb called deprochicat root? This isn't listed in any of my herbal books and I have't been able to find a place online that sells it.
