Hey,
Just wanetd to tell you guys here a story which happened today.
I'm 18 and I had an interview at Comet (UK electrical retailer) for a part-time job. i had a gorup interview which I 'passed' and then my seperate individual interview a short while later. The deputy manager interviewing me came out straight away and said "Theres only one job position I can offer you a job in and thats as a Warehouse worker. The reason is your hair - it wouldn't look good with a suit and tie." Now, my hair today was very presentable - I straigtened it and it looked very nice. Not only that but I was wearing some very nice clothes (I'm somewhat of a fashion victim and clothes are just something I got caught up in) and I feel would look prefectly fine in their orange shirt, black tie and black trousers. On the shop floor the majority of the guys have very short hair, though there was one older Sikh man who wore turbans and I assumed had long hair underneath.
I won't find out if I got the job 'till a couple days.
Anyway, that's just a story I wanted to share.
(Sorry about any spelling/grammar errors)
Take Care, Everyone.
I just left my local Target store, and I was getting into my car, I saw this twentysomething guy in a very nice black suit walk toward the store. He had a gourgeous blonde maine that extended at least half-way down his back. I thought he would have fit in in any office environment.

Vomit is not the only retailer around and many others seem to have a far more enlightened approach then this bigoted branch.
Suggest you simply turn them down and press on. If Sainsbury's, Waitrose can have long hairs in their food stores and John Lewis and others in their department stores then Vomit can go hang.
Don't even think of being down trodden by these peasants.
Two things to do:
One, just find a job at a not so narrow minded controlling organization. Non-Profit or Government organizations come to mind here.
Two, challenge them. Do they allow women to have long hair? I bet they do. Gender discrimination!?!?
Sometimes I just don't get it? Even if they are worried about dress, it's not like you can tail it, braid it, or bun it. :-) I dress neat and tail my hair and knowone has ever hassled me about it.
If I were you I would just looks somewhere else. The work environment probably sucks big time if that organization is worried about petty issues like hair.
