I thought the Chinese government got rid of everything cultural back in the cultural revolution or something so they can turn everyone into mindless zombies?
Hi Tai Fu,
Communism (or any other form of totalitarianism) tries indeed to turn the subjects into mindless zombies.
However, I think that the deep cultural experience of several thousand years is so deeply ingrained that a "cultural revolution" directed at stamping out the past will not prevail.
Just one thing: Apparently, Chinese astronomers and technicians provided the technology to circumnavigate the globe long before the Europeans were able to do this - apparently, there are numerous traces of Chinese influence to be found at many places along the west coast of North, Central, and South America.
I even suspect that the strength of China in the decades to come has much to do with getting back in touch with their cultural heritage.

And the Chinese developed movable type about 800 yrs. before anyone in Europe ever thought about it. They had a 'repeating' cross-bow that was top secret. They invented gun-powder for non-violent uses, and the Europeans wandered what kind of 'black rocks' that the Chinese were burning. Kites, the Great Wall, steel, porcelain, etc...
Have you been to Shangai lately? Maybe you should check out what is going on just across the Taiwan Strait.
If you have not noticed, history has shown that no one has really ever overrun China. The Mongols thought they did, but they were made Chinese. The Communists thought they overran the country, but the people have slowly been chipping away at it ever since.
Yeh, because he is a white man, it's okay. If he were a Chinese man..
