So I got a comment from my sister (whose opinion I respect, mind you) that my hair in the back is getting to dried out, and if I want to grow it out, I should trim it in the back.
I'm not sure that I should cut my losses (get it?) so soon, although I have noticed it is less soft than the rest of my hair. Is there any moisturizing treatment I can do to save it? I'd rather do that then have to cut any hair off.
I have the same problem with you.namely, my back hairs are little drier than the other hairs.what I do is to apply a little more conditioner to that area than the other areas of my hair.besides that...scissors are addicting...so you might wanna stay away from those until you achieve your desired length!!hopes this helps..
A small trim of the back would not necessarily be a bad thing for your longterm growing out goal. It would give your front hair a bit of time to catch up. I'm a big fan of all-one-length hair but even if you're not interested in that, I think having the front a bit longer than the back is a good thing.
I'm a fan of the uniform length myself!!in a physical sense...it doesn't really matter whether you trim it during the awkward phase or you trim it afterwards (the only difference being that your hair might appear "neater" if you have it trimmed earlier).however...I would think that trimming it early in the awkward phase would be bad in a psychological sense (especially if the person in question has unruly hair),since, for example, after cutting it in the back a little bit,you might go "oh,my left side is longer than the right,I should even it out",or," my right side is thicker,I should get it thinned to even it out",and various other thoughts that pop up in our head that would make us go cut our hair...just my 2 cents...I might be wrong LOL!!
Perhaps you might try this and see if it works for yourself before doing any cutting:
When washing, leave conditioner on for 5 minutes or so before washing out. (And when washing out leave just a little residue behind.) Also, in addition you might want to experiment as to just how some oil does applied to this dried area.
Good luck and I hope you find the solution to the problem.
I had only been waiting a minute or so to rinse out my hair. Perhaps waiting five will help out!
As they say, "Cutting your hair to promote growth is like having sex to promote celibacy."
I would, instead, suggest that you conditon your hair at every shower, but only shampoo every other time, or even every third time. I was surprised at how well this works. It fixed the dry hair and didn't leave it oily.
You might also try a leave-in conditioner, like Infusium 23.
Lotsa luck!
How often do you shampoo? When I had short hair, I shampooed daily, but that's too often for long hair. That might be contributing to your drying. Also, you need to use conditioner every day and have a deep conditioning treatment once a month.
If the back of your hair has no split ends, there's no need to cut it unless you just want to even up the ends.
I shampoo every other day or sometimes after three days. I haven't used a leave in conditioner before, so I should probably try that (any recommendations?) I also need to experiment with different shampoos and conditioners to find the right one for me, I suppose.
Thanks guys. If it weren't for the input, I could've done something I would've regretted!
