I know that many of you longhairs are heavy metal fans but what is your favorit band?
One of my favorit bands(i got so many favorit bands!) is Mustasch. Its a Swedish band, from Gothenburg to be precise.
www.mustasch.net
That is a tough question. I have many favorites, But my all time favorite would have to be, \m/_ Black Sabbath _\m/
Led Zeppelin.
Cream
Right now I'm listening to Lamb of God, Slayer, and KFK Industries.
i guess if i had to pick one it would be Ensiferum, hate their new stuff though because lindroos cant sing for crap
Never heard of a few of those bands that everyone posted.. I'll have to check those out. As for me, can't say I can pick a favorite, but here's a little cross section: Dragonforce & Sonata Arctica (these 2 are similar in their styles), Tub Ring (you'll either love 'em or hate 'em), and Otep (awesome female vocalist) if you've never heard of them and want to check them out, I recommend the album Sevas Tra.
Sonata Arctica and DragonForce= UNBELIEVEABLE... I have all of their albums :D Sadly, I was in Louisiana when Sonata Arctica played in St. Petersburg, just an hour-ish away from Orlando, where I live :(
Death Angel \m/
Go to here and check out a video of them playing a song 'Voracious Souls'.
I would have to say that either Black Sabbath, Venom or Megadeth always find their way into my playlists. Is it okay to have 3? :P
I have So many favorites that they change depending on my moods. But My favorite bands have to be In Flames(more for their old stuff) Opeth and Nevermore.
LED ZEPPELIN!!!
Linkin Park,Metallica,Slayer...and take a listen to this!! :P
Dream Theater. They are absolutely amazing musicians.
They're not my favorite, but I have to agree that I like them a lot. Their melodies are logical and pleasing, which some metal just doesn't seem to be to my ears. I like stuff across the whole spectrum, from soft ballads to raging shrieks, but I don't like everything in there, for sure.
Peace
I wholeheartedly agree. John Petrucci is one of my very favorite guitar players! (up there with Satch, Yngwie, Åkerfeldt/Lendgren, etc)
I love so many, but Type O Negative will probably always hold that #1 spot with me. A tie for second would be Black Sabbath and Pantera \m/
Gotta love Type O Negative. Great band.
I'm not up to date on metal that's come out in the past 15 years or so, but to pick a few from my 80's rebel years: Manowar, Metallica, and DIO. Of course, the list goes on....
Here's some more:
Butthole Surfers
Dead Kennedys
If I really want to date myself.....Are You Experienced?(hint)
Hendrix was the reason I started playing guitar
and one hell of a good reason too.
I think you are referring to JIMMY HENDRIX.
Black - Burzum or Wigrid
Death - Decapitated
Other - Pantera
Matt
That's a difficult one and too many bands I enjoy listening to. At the moment it's Emperor and Samael.
John.B
Eh, too hard to decide, so the ones I keep double-clicking on nowadays are Spineshank, Static-X, Evanescence, Hawthorne Heights, SOAD, and Kittie.
*writes down new metal bands discovered in thread*
Peace
while I like lots of defernt kinds of music
Jefferson Airplane is till one of my favorites
GREAT GREAT GREAT BAND!!!
It is really hard for me as I'm very involved in several local and international metal communities. I can list a few that I'm especially into at the moment..
And third..Silencer, I will never get tired of Silencer.
I'm also rather fond of my own work in my 1-man Celtic/Norse/Black Metal project, but I'd rather not say the name here. It is funny how quickly things as simple as music will strip away any good impressions you've made.
I checked out your links and Folkearth totally took me by surprise. I'm a big fan of folk music but I've never heard that sort of blend with metal. The song By the Sword of My Father is awesome. Thanks again, man
I'm glad you liked it. It's actually a pretty developed genre, so there's a lot more left to be explored. I have always considered Folkearth as a great gateway for delving further into Folk/Metal combinations- it has members from over 8 countries, and it combines traditional folk music from each country, making the folk style very ambiguous (The tracks I am working on are predominantly Celtic, whereas the overall sound is predominantly Norse, but I know of a few Greek musicians who are also adding their own Greek touch to everything.)
It is hard to give you more recommendations because the genre's actually way more developed than most people would think, so the styles vary GREATLY (honestly, I could make an analogy about comparing Rock to Punk and I wouldn't be exaggerating.) But there are some other good projects from members who are involved in Folkearth; Forefather and Otyg are probably the easiest to get into at first.
Also, if you don't like Metal- I went to the Nordic Roots festival in Minneapolis in the beginning of October and saw Hoven Droven (from Sweden), who do a VERY good combination of Swedish folk music and Hard Rock, though it has no vocals. Surprisingly, they only use fiddles and saxophone, but the saxophone manages to sound very folky.
As an aside, I also love folk music way more than metal, but this topic was about the latter so I didn't go on about my love for folk music. I'm glad there are more people here who appreciate it!
I just checked out Folkearth and really like their music. Thanks for the link, Gylfi! I wish there were more Nordic and Scandinavian fests here and back in Colorado. I really enjoy checking that stuff out as it's a very large portion of my ancestry. Maybe that's one reason why I want to move up to Minnesota. =)
my site
Haha, I used to think that back when I was living in Colorado! But the grass is always greener on the other side..or, on another side, rather. Next destination: Iceland :)
I think that's why I have a lot of interest in folk music though, my heritage is EXACTLY 50% Celtic and 50% Norse. Coincidentally, Celtic and Norse folk music is the best! (I kid, I kid..but I still believe it!)
Now that's too funny! I didn't realize that you used to live in CO. Dang... If you want, send me an e-mail. We need to chat a little more.
Opeth, Sonata Arctica, KMFDM, and so so many more :)
Mikael Akerfeldt is just plain awesome.
Definitely, The Andcrews Sisters.
At the moment, Rammstein. Hier kommt die Sonne
