I was just looking at some pictures of guys from the Far East who manage to grow hair as long as 20 feet, yet I've noticed people on here say they have already reached terminal but their hair is nowhere near as long. So I was wondering is it because they started growing too late in life or because of genetics. Just curious!
genetics, i think
some people can only grow hair below their shoulders, others it can trail on the floor
Anything 20 feet long is surely matted in some form, either in a controlled way, such as deadlocks or, sometimes just a single matted growth that can 'grow' indefinitely. In a mat, single hairs shed normally, but they don't escape the mat, so the accumulation just keeps growing.
Since it doesn't have anything to do with terminal length, just about anybody can achieve very long growth in this way. Having it look 'nice' is a different thing entirely and requires a lot of attention to forming the mats in the first place and then maintaining them.
Give it a try if you like!
Ahhh... Now this makes sense! Didn't realise that the shed hair remains in the mat. Cheers!
for free-flowing hair. Dianne Witt probably has the longest non- matted hair in the world at 13 feet. She is in the record books for the longest hair that can be brushed or combed.
