Ok my hair used to be semi descent, until i started using a hot iron for about 3 weeks in a row, up to 2 times a day. I didnt conditon the whole time.
I saaw how nasty my hair got, all tangled and stuff. Then I completly stopped. My hair has become all stuck together, and knotted. I dont know how to explain it. I been condition daily fro about 3 weeks, and taking care of my hair for th past three week to get results. there is some result, but i think the damage is already done. My hair hgad become frizzy, and it still poffy at the boton, even though its shoulder length. Its been growing about 1.5 years, not one cut
Time to change though:
My hair is messy and outta control, so I think i will cut .5 inch off and get it a bit tidy. I want it to be straight and it is, but its soo puffy, so i am thinking of getting a perm. I will get htis done at a saloon.
Pleasee all you guys give me advice.you know your stuff.
Thanks
Cutting half an inch off the ends should be good for removing some damage BUT under no circumsatnces start using chemicals - whether at a salon or home. if you think your hair has suffered with the iron than a perm will make it FAR worse.
Trim, the ends and condition regularly- that should see it recover.
I strongly suggest staying away from chemical perms. (See Han-Uwe's reply to a post a few days ago by another member who was asking about chemical perms)
As a side note, I too fell into the "straightening iron trap", for a long period of time before discovering this board, and damaged my hair considerably. It is always best to let your hair be natural.

My hair used to be extremely poofy when I first started growing it out. I wish I could find a good pic to show just how huge and frizzy it would get. But anyway, I found that once it grew out a bit more it seemed to calm itself down. I know that isn't exactly the answer you were looking for, but sometimes things just have to run their course..
Also, I tried lots of different moisturizing shampoos and conditioners.. some seemed to work better than others. There's a few John Frieda products called Frizz-Ease that worked best. There are 5 products/steps in all including shampoo/conditioner and some stuff you put in while your hair is still wet and then another you use once it's dry. If you can find one of them, it'll show the whole line of frizz/poof control products on the package. It can be found at Walmart. If you don't have a Walmart near you, just call around to a salon. Someone there should know where you can get some.
Also, avoid using a hair dryer, and if you must use one, use a low heat setting.
That's about all I can tell ya. Hope it helps.
After admitting to damaging your hair as you've just mentioned, why even consider for one moment to damging it further by considering a perm? That would be like a heroine addict who is waking up to the damage his habit has caused in his life, only to then consider trying cocaine as a way to remedy his first mistake!
