It is sometimes hard with family and long hair. Even if I only want to have a small talk and they had a long hair sighting about a man with long or very long hair they fall over it with arguments like to be crazy or a Neandertaler and the world will go down and so on (in the past also about me). It hurts me and I think it will be better not to talk with them.
There exist times where I am really helpless about this.

I feel you pain. My bigoted sister feels that if men wear their hair long, somehow the Dark Ages will return. She feels that "boys should look like boys." What nonsense! If we take European history as a guide, we see that European boys and men wore long, not short hair. Only you should decide your own hair style!
By the way, I noticed that in the University of Minnesota, there are many students and professors who have long hair. If fact, there was an art professor who wore waist-length hair and stylish, three piece suits. Anyone find similar professors on your part of the world?
Here is what a friend, who asked not to be named, thought of the Male Dressing Liberation book.
He write: "Regarding the excerpt from the book on wearing dresses: Way too preachy. I'm not sure who he thinks is the audience for this book, but I would say that it would be only received well by transvestites about ready to come out of the closet. I think he would have been more effective if he would have shown men's fashions throughout the ages and how what we call dresses now were common for men to wear in Verona for example. He could call the book, fun men's fashions and then make a case for introducing them back into our culture. He seems to be ignoring that the "wall" that exists because of the retribution that occurs when a boy wears non- standard men's clothing still exists in adulthood because the retribution also still exists."

Hello,
thank you for answering. The problems I told from are not trivial why they determined my attitude to the family and to society in general. For many years I tried to escape in mathematics and natural sciences, on the resulting level of argumentation including philosophy they had no chance. But I couldn't solve the emotional problems. Sometimes I feel completely independent from all the requests that society gives to me but I have to earn money and to survive in some way. I feel the strong difference between intellectual competence and emotional behaviour.
I think it gives already much for me to see that a lot of people have pro opinions for long hair. The long hair community in general matches my feelings much more as all the effort to come to insights in the past.
I never have seen a German professor with longer then shoulder length hair, in almost all cases they have their very short hair style. And I have spend about 20 years on universities (and additional 5 years in a research institute).
Currently I live in peace with my hair and if genetics will not catch it away I hope it will grow still some years.

The author of the Male Dressing Liberation book needs to refocus the book for elementary school children as a picture book of clothing, past, present, and the possible future.
Most children that age have yet to form concrete opinions about what men and women should, or should not wear.
The author could also write another book about hair styles, how they have changed throughout the ages, and what one might expect about the future.
Just some ideas.
