My hair is almost upto my neck and it looks stupid. What do you recommend to get my hair wavy or curly?
Thanks
This subject fascinates me MOST about hair.
People are NEVER happy with what they have! The "too flat" straight hairs want soft waves/curls and the curlies want their unruly mess to be STRAIGHT. It's bizarre.
If you really want some curls, get a perm. Keep in mind, however, that this process is the same thing as a curly haired person straightening it. If you don't mind some additional damage, go for it!
Some people think that guys straightening/perming their hair is fem, but I always thought it was okay.
Just be glad you have straight hair! It's the easiest to grow!

I am thinking of doing a perm in the future, but I want to let it grow first so I can see if its worth it... because sometimes a straight hair becomes wavy when grown...
Yupp I can say that's true.

Like Tai-Fu said, hair sometimes becomes wavy when it´s longer (that´s what happened to me)
So... don´t worry too much about it
You could also try "frizzing it out" a little with your hands, at least for now...
Whatever you do, don´t worry, long hair always looks great in the end ;)
And is Wishmaster EVER so correct! Your hair will end-up looking great.
If your hair gets long enough to braid, a good way to get waves is to braid your hair when it is damp and let it dry that way. Then when you take out the braids your hair will be wavy. It's kind of a natural way of "setting" your hair. I've seen that and it works well without any damage at all.
A perm really does permanently change the hair which is permed (but not the new hair which grows out), so it doesn't make sense for dealing with a temporary problem. Instead you could try using a curling iron, or a blow dryer and a round brush. While the heat has the potential to be damaging, you can get styling products that provide heat protection. You can try different things because the curls or waves wash out, and you can adjust what you do as your hair grows longer. (With a perm, as it grows out the old hair will stayed permed while the new hair is straight.)
My hair is dead straight also; I often wonder what it would be like to have waves or curls.
I read the issues that many on here have with their unruly curly hair. I also look at how my length is plainly evident. I am 11 months into my journey and my hair is breaking over my shoulders.
Almost everyone wants what they don't have (the grass is greener . . . . . . . . .). Several things to be thankful for:
1) We have enough hair in the first place to grow out
2) We have the fortitude to do so
3) We have a place to go to for support and information
4) We will be happy once past the dreaded awkward stage
Once your hair gets long, you have the option of introducing waves or curls. You have to weigh the benefits vs. the damage inflicted by doing so; that's a decision for you to make. With straight hair it is much easier to get wavy/curly than to go the other way.
The main thing you need right now is to give it time.

I must be an anomaly: I am quite happy having the hair type that I do. I can hardly wait for it to be long enough to put into a proper tail, ane, even more exciting, to try some of the wonderful half-tail braids discussed my others.
(On a side note, it is just long enough now that it looks neater for it all to be finger-brushed back, over the top of my head, rather than outward from the crown. I've had no less than a dozen students tell me my haircut looks nice, when really, my hair is just behaving itself more now.)

straight hair is wonderful. just keep it growing.
