PBS has a series "Survivor M.D.", which is about medical doctors. One show in the series follows individuals from entering Med. school, through residency, and beyond. I think it spans 14 years.
Anyway, there is a guy who starts with short hair, and eventually progresses to long hair. At work in the emergency room, he wears it in a braid down his back. The series is currently being broadcast on PBS.

I remember seeing him in a PBS program that followed one particular class from Harvard Med School, if I recall. He seemed really out of place as a doctor. I'll have to catch this program.
