There appears to be a new Michael joining us, so from now on I'll sign in as Michael 1.
Another picture of some rather nice dreads.
I've often wondered how much longer their hair would hang down if it was straight. Does anyone have any idea what the ratio is? In other words, if a guy has dreads that hang to his waist, how much lower would his hair be if it were straight?
Pair of dreads
Keep in mind that dreads can potentially grow interminably, so one's "straight" terminal length will likely be greatly surpassed if the dreads are left to grow. But you want to know how long the hair would be if undreaded, regardless of terminal length. That's not possible to know, as dreads are very specific to the person with them, with relation to how knotted, tangled, and coiled the hair in the dreads are, and to the thickness of the dreads. So two straight-haired guys with the same length of hair might have dreads of differing lengths. Therefore, any ratio you work out would only be good as a generalization or for the person from which you got the ratio. You could average a bunch of results, but it still wouldn't be mathematically exact.
Nice pic, btw. If I ever get dreads, I want them to look like one of those guys'.
