Attached is a picture of the tennis star, Andy Murray.
Alongside is a caption, which reads:
"So this is Scottish tennis star Andy Murray. He's not had his hair cut in 18 months, can you tell?"
You could have fooled me.
If anyone was using this picture as a template for growing, they might assume it would take them 3-4 years to get anywhere near 'long' hair...

One of my friends was the victim of such deception. He had been brainwashed into believing that growing straight hair to shoulder-length took a minimum of four years, and that waist-length and beyond would be an almighty nine years or more. Man, would that suck if it were true. :P
Perhaps the pictured person's hair has a very short terminal length, however, and long stopped getting longer, or maybe the writer meant to say eight months instead of eighteen. Or, maybe it's the newest form of longhair discouragement: insidious, untrue messages. You decide. lol.
Peace
I honestly think the misconcepton has to do with the term haircut. Most people perceive a haircut as taking off A LOT of hair. They don't see frequent trims of 1/4 inch or so as real haircuts. It appears that the young man has probably had frequent trims, not a total makeover or cut recognizable to most, which is their definition of a real haircut.
Ah, yeah, I hadn't thought of that. Quite possible.

he has admited to cutting it himself, he did children in need (which is an annual charity fund raiser the BBC do in the UK)
hope the link works
I think it should read that he hasn't brushed it in 18 months.
