You may or may not know that i have quite bad wavy/frizzy hair - or should i say i HAD quite bad wavy/frizzy hair!
I bought this straightening iron a couple weeks ago and haven't mustered up the courage to use it...until today - and it was the best thing that's EVER happened to my hair!
Now, i know some people on this board aren't too hot on straightening irons (nice pun, there). They say they take ages to straighten your hair and make it all dry and crusty. But not this one:
I live in England and over here there is a VERY famous hairdresser called Nicky Clarke. This guy's list of awards is longer then the Mississippi! He's widely recognised as the best hairdresser in the land, and he's on all these sad, daytime feminine TV shows giving "style advice". He even does hairdressing for the Royal Family!
Now, he's endorsed his own range of hairdressing equipment and giving his reputation, i decided to shell out £20 for his straightening iron to try and control my uncontrollable hair - not an easy task - or so i thought...
The results were amazing, and quite speedy! My hair is straight, and thanks to this special "heat protection spray" you get with the iron, my hair is also nice and smooth 'n' shiny. You also get a free starightening guide and brush with the iron (value for money, i can tell you).
I don't know if this guys well known in the States, but if you live in the good ol' US of A and have similar hair to what i did, i'd fing out fast if his stuff is available there. I'm sure he would be as he is just THAT fanous not to stay in Britain when you consider the fortune he could make out of you guys!
If not, please mail order - this guy's stuff is worth it!
For the first time ever, i feel chuffed and confident with my hair and even have the balls to stay it actually looks DAMN GOOD!
I know people like me have received some crap advice on this forum, but this is the real deal.
I never thought i could get my hair looking so great - Nicky Clarke is a GOD!!
It may seem a hassle to keep using it every few days, but it's real quick and easy to do, and by that i mean, it straightens damn fast unlike the iron someone on here told me about once! And it doesn't burn you if it comes into contact with your head or neck - it's so worth it!
Don't criticise until you've tried, and i'm feelin' fine!
Any questions/queries just reply to this message and i'll post a response.
These irons are great! You can visit my pages www.hair3x.com. On my News page there is more info about them. I am glad that you are a trendsetter among you men. Let me know what brand you bought. There are a lot of them, but some work too slow.

My hair is curly, and I don't want it straight. Especially if I have to subject it to such harsh treatment. This seems a bit crazy to me-like Michael Jackson trying to change his skin color-be happy with what you were born with. You don't have to change. Sheesh!

Change is good, especially for nice frizzball
Theres nothing wrong with curly hair. If my hair wasnt so frizzy and afroesque, I would just let it be. I have a lot of wave. Sounds like you lucked out and got the kind of curly hair that isnt a big frizz ball, and you can actually do something with it.
How long is you hair, and how well does it hold up in humidity? Like, if you shower without a cap or anythign and you keep it out of the water, will the moisture in the air ruin it? Also, if you have time, can you list the ingredients in the spray?
My beeswax method is working great and you can get it wet and without ruining it, but maybe I'll give your find a try.
After using the iron, my hair fell to about an inch below my ears. But length makes no odds with this iron, all that matters is that you have enough length to clamp into the iron as it doesn't burn when coming into contact with your noggin'.
My hair was as uncontrollable as hell. It doesn't hold up well in rain, wind, humidity or still air. But there's been a definite improvement after using the iron, except when it comes into contact with water, and as i live in England, it just had to rain today, didn't it?! I shouldn't see a problem with humidity though, well not unless you live in a sauna. Your hair will stay straight under normal conditions.
As for the spray, well that has nothing to do with keeping it straight - it just adda a little shine and smoothness. Anyhoo, the ingredients are; Aqua (Water), PVP/VA copolymer, Sodium polystyrene sulfonate, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, Parfum (Fragrance), Juniper (Juniperus Communis) oil, Panthenol, Benzophenone-4, Amodimethicone, Cetrimonium chloride, Trideceth-12, Tetrasodium EDTA, Benzyl alcohol, Sodium hydroxide Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.
What do you mean by your "beeswax method"? Is that that super-strength gel stuff? Is beeswax any good then? How well does it hold up in differing weather conditions? Does it do a good job? And is it costly?
It costs 2 bucks for a 4oz tub. If you used a lot everyday it would still last you well over a month. I dont use it everyday and I dont use much at all so it lasts a LONG time, defintely the best bang for your buck of any hair product, period. It isn't gel, it is waxy. It coats the hair shaft, making it ultra smooth, and it increases the diameter of the hair which straightens the hair. I have wavy frizzy hair and I can get it perfectly straight. It also traps moisture in like strong, straight haired people's hair does on its own. You can get hold this way. Or it can trap it out for a wet look. As for weather, nothing effects it really. Even if you get it wet in the shower it doesnt come out, you have to use soap to remove it. Basically it just has a lot of uses. You should give it a shot, if you dont like it, no big deal, only 2 bucks. One warning, you MAY find it to be "greasy" applied to dried hair, it is a bit tacky until it dries on the hair.
Hey, how bout a before/after pic? Also a pic of the box your iron came in. I'm pretty interested.

Sorry, i have no digital camera or scanner, but take my word for it, it's good.
As for a pic of the box, sorry can't do that, but all you have to look for is the name "Nicky Clarke". I could try and find a pic of the box on the net, and post it later, but i ain't promising nothing - i'll have a good look though.
I have been growing my hair out since last October. Since my hair cut then was rather short, no one knew really what I was doing. But in the last week or so, colleagues have begun to speak! It has been interesting. I teach in a high school where the boys are not allowed to have long hair or beards. The double standard is allowed for male teachers, however, an injustice I have objected to for years to no avail.
Anyway, in the last week, a female colleague announded to a crowded room: you're letting your hair grow out! Yesterday, another female colleauge walked up and began to play with the curling ends of my hair now down around my collar. She said she thought it was wonderful! Another female colleague announced that I looked Italian (whatever that means). Yesterday, a male colleague walked into the room where I was copying material and said: You're growing a ponytail! I never had the guts to do it.
None of these comments was invited. My hair has become long enought that it is apparantely obvious that I am not getting it cut. I have responded where it felt like a responses was in order that I always wanted long hair and at 41 I felt like the choice was finally mine. That usually leaves silence. But, my hair is making them nervous. I am kind of enjoying watching what's happening.
I know just what you mean. I've been growing mine for about 10 months now and its about an inch past my ears and one length in the back after trimming about 2 inches for a nephews wedding. No mullett!! I have been getting looks from females that I've never gotten before. Since I comb it back on both sides, its not too noticable yet, but I've always been way too conservative that way, and now I feel like a rebel at 45!! How long? Don't know, we'll see, I suppose. As long as the female attention keeps up, all positive so far, I just keep it going.
Thanks for your report. I'm 46 and people are just now noticing I'm starting to let my hair grow. I refuse to give in and not continue just because there are those that are bothered by it. People I usually could care less about anyway . It's nice to hear the nicer comments. Bob
I live in Texas, but will soon be moving to England for a study abroad program. I have been growing out my hair for almost a year, and it is quite long (I have faster than normal hair growth). My hair doesn't respond well to moisture at all, though. It looks great after I blow dry it, but after a few minutes in humid air, especially when it is blown by the wind, it frizzes up and starts to get nasty and curly. I am afraid that this problem will be much worse in the very wet climate of England. You talked about the products endorsed by Nicky Clarke, what are they? Especially, what is the brand name of the iron that you talked about? How long does it take to use. Are there any disadvantages?. I appreciate any help you can give, Thanks.
