ORIGINALLY POSTED TO LETO (SEE BELOW) :
1. Generally speaking a lot of people growing out their hair (especially those doing so for the first time) are faced with a range of social, cultural and familial pressures against their doing so. Feedback then is as important to the process of growing longhair (especially FOR MEN) as are tips and advice on taking care of that hair.
2. Not everyone who posts pictures/updates of themselves gets 'hundreds' of posts of feedback. The reasons behind why not can include the fact that those who do not respond may not have anything positive to say. Yet THIS IS NOT to infer that those who DO respond are being fake. MANY, MANY of us feel that longhair enhances the appearance of MOST men. Of course there are exceptions and most often when that occurs that person gets little feedback.
(However there are confounding variables at play here, such as the fact that those who participate more on the board usually receive more feedback generally, and of course newer members posting for the first time often have not had the chance to establish themselves yet-thus they often get less feedback).
THE POINT THOUGH is that people on this board are NOT being dishonest when they give positive feedback, they just usually prefer not to express negative sentiments as this is a supportive place in a world that often lacks such support (+ as I've already mentioned , most of us think that longhair on men is generally an appearance enhancer)
FINALLY: don't be so blatant and cut/dry on who fits into the very good-looking/model category here. Not only is such an opinion inherently subjective, biased and thus unfair, but it also disregards ME, bloody gorgeous me!
Your final point is very interesting and I am sure that many here feel the same way that you do, myself included. There are certainly more that 2 or 3 good looking guys here, however, beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder and I think its best that way, otherwise, guys like me would live very lonely lives.

Amen to that brother :)
..
incredibly well said!! :P
Sounds good to me.
I did post this answer as a conclusion to my other thread, but I think it fits here better after reading all the other answers...thanks anyway
I seem to understand the "philosophy" behind this board now. Indeed, if the position here is, that (almost) every individual decision to grow out the hair has to be accepted and not judged by categories of aesthetics or attractivity or style etc. and every decision to do so is generally regarded as a "positive step" then no discussion is needed. I see, the "supportive character" is the main purpose of this board.
(but then also no feedback is really needed, because its basically always the same...only my opinion)
well, as a casual visitor I will subdue under the regulations of course, I simply misunderstood the character of this place.
...but regarding the "model-like-look": I see, you dont want anybody get hurt by the implication that he may not have a "model-like-look".
But I remember when these members I mentioned (or others) introduced themselves to the board or were posting updates they were actually asked by _other_ members (not me) if they are models or are thinking about a model career or something like that. So that was not exactly my idea and no offense intention from my side.
But I am not sure if its a good idea to "rule" this board by generally negating the undeniable fact that human males have different aesthetical appearances with or without long hair.
best regards
I agree, I'm always honest when I post, but I go by the device "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say nothing at all", so I pretty much don't post if I don't have any positive comments. And I don't post as much as I used to because of more work and such, so I chose when to post and when not to.
I would also mention that sometimes when I post an update I get a ton of posts and sometimes not very many. I have a theory that timezones may play into this, cause if I post while it's nighttime in america, then a long time will pass before the americans get home from work and check the board, and the post may already have passed way down the frontpage.
I see where you are coming from with this
but I like the feel good attitude most people on the board have.
I'd just appreciate more comments on my pictures whenever I post them.
It isn't that we all think ourselves to be model (or even hope to be! That is a lot of fuss of stuff most of us would rather not bother with!), but, that said, there is a bit of narcism inherent in devoting the time and energy to grow one's hair out for the fact (even if only in part) that it makes one look better to themself. I mean, ultimately, it is about pleasing ourselves (not that this is a webiste or forum for discussing self-pleasuring in its usual, collquial use of the term).
Most of us had/have to push past a wall of resistance where many of those around us -whose opinion of us helps form, in part, our opinion about ourselves - ssay things like "you look better with short hair" or "you look scruffy" or " Gawd, you are an ugly bastard".....
the point is:
I guess we are all hoping to improve ourselves against our own internal standard of beauty; beauty which include the conviction to express one's inner self in their external appearance, whether that means fitting another's mold for beauty or not.
