I've been lurking here for a while. I'm 38 and heavyset, and I have extremely curly hair. I'd really like to grow it out, but it always turns into an Afro...I'd rather have something more like a mullet, but curly. I've attached a pic of me that's about a month old; I'm due for a trim soon (on top--I can't stand the big poofy that I get on top) and would appreciate any suggestions you might have for me.
Why does everyone seem to hate the poof-ball afro look? Is it because the fad is out?
Its been out since the 70s...for whites, anyway.
In my area it seems to be acceptable for blacks that are growing their hair out. Its also popular for the times between styles. For example, I see black guys change their corn row designs a couple times a week and in between styles they just let it 'fro out.
And I remember when they used to call that a natural! By the way, was it true that they called the white "Afro" an "Isro", because Israeli Jews had curly hair, just like other Mediterranean people such as Greeks and Romans?
