I went to the funeral for a longtime-longhaired friend of mine who died in a accident last weekend. I was stunned to find he was not long haired at the funeral. His hair appeared to have been cut short at the funeral home. And not cut very well.
This completely freaked me out. I asked a close friend what had happened to his hair. Apparently, some members of his family wanted his hair as a keepsake. His family (none of whom I really know) is rather conservative, so I am not sure if they wanted his hair OR wanted his hair short for burial.
I guess it is none of my business, but it made me really uncomfortable.I can't help feeling that my friend would not have really liked his hair being cut in this circumstance.
Yeah, it's strange, but it's their business.
If it matters to anybody, then they should presumably make their wishes known in this respect but it seems rather morbid unless they're seriously sick.
It sucks doesn't it? Why didn't he leave his will? All of you who want to be burried w/long hair - make a will!
Yeah, but wills don't necessarily get dug up and examined fast enough. The best way would be to make it clear to your next of kin how you want to look in the coffin, but, as I said it seems sort of morbid.
First of all, my sympathies to you in the loss of your friend. Who knows if his Family wanted his hair as a momento or just wanted him to be burried with a short haircut. This I know - dead persons have no rights. It is the surviving Family who make the arrangements and instruct a funeral director how to dress a deceased loved one, whether to cut their hair, how to style their hair, etc... As far as putting your hair desires in a will, you can do it but it will still not guarantee that you'll be burried with your mane intact. My advice is to enjoy your hair while you're alive; it truly doesn't matter (to YOU) when you're dead.
I want my hair buzzed, if I die like it is now. Once they washed it and didnt do what I do with it, I would have a fro. Not cool =(
I think such a request falls in the category of a living will. Just like some people have requests for or against organ donation if they are killed in a car accident. Some people with a terminal disease may request a do not resuscitate order in their living will so the hospital won't try to revive them the first time they die.
If you wish to keep your hair long, tell many of your friends and relatives. Enough people must know, so if you die unexpectedly and anyone tries to cut off your hair they will get a lot of wrath from the many friends and relatives who know what your wishes are.
