What is your guy's take on hair supplements? Has anyone tried them before? and have they actually worked? I did a search and Hair Formula 37 seemed to be one of the most popular. I've heard around before that they're a waste of money. What does everyone else think?
I recently started taking a Vitamin B Megacomplex, which also includes Biotin. I also started taking Saw Palmetto as recommended by Absalom. I remember a post by ChrisG that Formula 37 is NOT all it's made out to be--he felt he had SLOWER growth when he took that.
Hope this helps,
David
Thanks much David! So is Saw Palmetto expensive? I suppose I could look for myself and not be so friggen lazy but I like hearing your feedback since you're obviously an expert with long hair.
Actually, Saw Palmetto is not very expensive--normally around $10 Cdn for a bottle of 60 although they had a special this week for around $7 at my local drugstore.
Also I don't consider myself an "expert" on long hair lol. Most advice I have given I've picked up from other guys here, and I also like to pass on tips to people to help them avoid making the same mistakes I made before discovering this board 2 months ago. (e.g. mistakes I made with hair straightening)
Hope this helps,
David
Thanks for the help David. I personally consider you to be an expert of some degree, since you've been growing your hair for awhile. I just started all over again myself, lol. I appreciate your advice, thank you.
I just got a botel of 300 500mg tablets/capsules in walgreens for less than 15$. I used to take Propecia back in India as I believe to have Androgenic allopecia. Ran out of stock here in US so trying saw palmetto ... seems to be OK. I dont think its really a waste as many have mentioned. I think I will give 6/10 compared to 9/10 to propecia. Advantage is that its a herbal suppliment.
FYI
- B1 / B2 / B6 / Niacin: 20-100 mg each (somewhat hard to find in Europe; US residents try B-100). Some people get funny dreams and /or increased libido after high doses of vitamins B6 or B1.
- B12: 1 mg (= 1000 micrograms; may be included in "B-100")
- Folic Acid: 5-15 mg
- Biotin: 5-10 mg (do NOT combine with undercooked eggs - they inactivate biotin)
- Zinc: 50-100 mg
- Iodide: 200-400 micrograms (avoid if you have a thyroid gland overfunction)
- Vitamin E: 250 mg - 1 g
- Vitamin C: 100 - 500 mg; or use lemon juice for your tea
Somone posted this long back ... it helps to some extent.
I tried the hair formula 37 and I believe it actually slowed down the growth of my hair. I cannot prove it but since I stopped taking it people have actually commented on my greater growth rate. I don't take anything now and I believe it does grow faster.
