hello all im at 11 months of growth and today i notice a lil knot so i tried to detangle it and pull it and ended up doing nutting until i decided to cut it right were the knot was but it took away lenght . my hair is tight curls i just want to know if anyone else has this problem and what do they do.
I'd say that the biggest problem I have with my hair right now, at 3 years of growth, is tangling and knots. Every day I have tangles to try to work out and occasionally I find a pretty bad knot. I try to be gentle and take the time to undo the tangles, once it gets pretty knotted I just cut it or break it out. I figure that tangles and knots are just part of the long hair "experience" and cannot be completely avoided. I'd just say don't stress over them too much, try to detangle your hair once a day or so and just let it be. Other people might have different advice, but this is the best i've come up with.
Perhaps at this point try "Finger-Combing" your hair starting at the bottom and working upwards........and do it gently. "If" the tangles and knots are still causing great troubles it sounds as if you have a bunch of Split-Ends which are causing these troubles. Go to a Salon and ONLY have the splits sought out and targeted...........a trim isn't needed. This will make the difference between night and day. Good luck to you.
My hair is pretty good at not getting tangled, but I still get knots occasionally - what I do is just untangle it with my fingers. Sometimes it can take awhile, having to pick some individual hairs out of the knot, but I've never had to (gasp!) cut one out.
That's pretty much what I do with tangles. Untangle SLOWLY and a few hairs at a time. Then I finger comb to make sure the tangles are out, then use a brush. I've also never had to cut any out. I don't ever plan to!

I get bad knots in my hair too (being curly). They used to be really bad because I had a large quantity of split ends. because of this I had about half an inch taken off and the knots are much rarer. When I do get them I cover the knot in conditioner and pull out a few hairs at a time, if you try and comb it out(even with your fingers) sometimes the knot tightens and you end up with a ball of hair which has to be cut out.
My hair is very curly, and I have a lot of these on the hair at the back of my head, the hair near my neck. Try to detangle them if you can, and snip them off just above the knot if that doesn't work. Theoretically, you can just ignore them for the time being as well, giving your hair time to grow longer before you trim off the knots. I believe the knots are caused when the hair kinks up because it's been mistreated, so perhaps try to be gentler with it when combing etc.
I have this problem. If I can't unknot it, I cut it off. When your hair is getting longer it doesn't matter as much if a couple of your hairs (out of hundreds of thousands) are a couple of milimeters shorter than the rest.
