Well...I finally made it to the year and a half mark. Started from about a 1 inch buzz June 2005 and have just let it grow naturally without trims. The last time I grew my hair long I kept my hair trimmed to grow out the top first and then I let it all grow down. I personally had many bad hair days and awkward stages (I have cowlicks all over) when I did it that way so I decided to grow naturally this time around as an experiment. I have to say...I've been enjoying this experience much more. Saved a lot of cash along the way, too! The past month or so I've switched from natural shampoo/conditioners back to Pantene (Hydrating Curls) and my hair feels better and is more manageable. My bangs finally tuck behind my ears comfortably when I want them to which is a big milestone for me...they grow much slower than the rest. Anyway, thanks for looking and keep those manes growin!
Hey gman,
I see a very noticeable change from your previous pictures. It's certainly looking very healthy as well. Congrats! Do you have a final goal in mind?
Yeah, my hair seems to be taking off right now. My avatar was 2 months ago. As for final goal...at least waist length if it will grow that long.
Congratulations, looking awesome, great natural waves, wonderful colour! You may complain about slow bang growth but the growth rate of the rest of your hair makes up for that!--Looks at though you're nearly at mid back length already, which is up there with some of the fastest growing hair of anyone here. All the best and keep it growing!
David
Thanks, David! my bangs are about 8 inches long and the longest area in the back is about 11. Bangs don't bother me anymore now that I can tuck them when needed :-)
WOW!!!! That is an extraordinarly beautiful mane who have going there. Very impressive growth rate for 18 months. Have you measured the longest part? You mention in another post that you'll shoot for waist length. I think that will look superb. Good job!!!!
Why thank you kind sir! Longest area (in back) is about 11 inches.
Wow! I didn't realize your hair was that long... That's some fantastic growth for only 18 months. =)

Thanks! I'm enjoying watching your progress, by the way. Keep it up!
Nice that is really impressive hair growth for only 18 months and it appears to be really healthy and well looked after too. I hope that my hair is where yours is length and condition-wise when it gets to 18 months. I like the colour aswell. Keep it growing.
Thanks man! I hope you're enjoying your longhair journey, too!
Hey dude, you have a great mane there. It looks wonderful. That is amazing length for only 18 months. Keep growing it.
Absalom
Thanks Absalom! The longer it gets the more I like :-)
Just curious, what did you have before the 1 inch buzz? Or did you always have a buzz? And why did you decide to go long?
I've always kept a shaggy head since I cut my long hair 10 years ago in my 20's. I hate haircuts. I'd get one and then let it grow for about 6 months...get another one, etc. I only got a buzz last summer because we moved from the coast to the high desert and the summer heat was killing me. Thought the buzz would help...but it didn't, really. So, naturally, I just let it go again and made the decision to grow it long 6 months into the regrowth. I feel most like myself when my hair is long so that's why it's growing back.
GREAT-looking hair, man!! Nice length, too, --- in fact, I remember when my hair got to about the same length as yours currently is, I remember liking that particular length for alot of reasons... one being that I could wear it in a variety of ways: 1) a half-tail (tying the bangs back); 2) a short ponytail (my long ponytail on me now tends to cause a lot of snarls & snags in my hair, unless I use multiple hair-ties); 3) loose, but with a bandana; or, 4) even completely loose! If I ever decide to cut my hair shorter than it currently is, I'd cut it back to about your length, or maybe *slightly* longer, --- at the length my hair is now, I always feel like I have to braid, bun, or use several hair ties down the length of the tail before stepping outdoors!

Thanks a lot, Ken! Yeah, I'm digging this length very much. 6 more months is going to ROCK even more! I haven't experimented with tails much but might try some styles as time goes on. I enjoy my hair the most when it's down and flowing....and when my wife runs her fingers through it!
Holy smokes, thats a lot of hair for 18 months growth! I've been growing mine from shaved for 16 months but i'm miles off your length! It looks great too - congrats!
Wow, I really never thought that my hair has been growing fast but from all the responses I guess it's been doing pretty good. Thanks for the compliment! Your hair is looking nice and healthy, too. Keep it up!
Looks awesome! It looks very healthy and natural. Keep it growing and continue to share your hairs progress with us!
Thanks!...and will do....
Very inspiring!
Arnold
Hey there, Arnold! I look forward to checking out future updates of you and your awesome curls!
nice fur you have there,on your head and face hope you keep it all growing
Hey Ron! Thanks...I think I'm going to stop trimming my beard for the winter. It's been years since I've grown a big beard. I usually keep it about an inch long. I've already let it go the past couple months and is a couple inches long now. Hard to tell in the picture with the bright sun but it's a growin. I totally dig your patch, by the way!
you look so much better with the long hair. I think the buzz looks so Mr. Mean Guy or Marine Guy or something. I wish people would stop trying to force others to cut their hair...
Thanks, dude. Yeah, I feel very weird with a buzz. When I can't feel any hair move it's strange. Been a VERY long time since I had a buzz...I think grade school. Nobody forced me to buzz last summer but I hear what you're saying. Live and let live.
I think a couple of the guys already said this, but that is amazing length for 1 1/2 years from a buzz. We have about the same length hair, I've grown it for about 2 years and it was maybe 5 inches at most when I started growing it, also no trims.
Your hair looks really good, too.
Dave
Thanks Dave! I appreciate the comments. It's a fun length, isn't it? I hope you're enjoying your hair!
Excellent progress, quite a terrific mane you have. The pictures are really cool, nothing like a sunny day to make long hair even better looking :)
Keep on growin'
Thanks a lot, Chris! Yeah, it's been cold but sunny here. Couldn't resist an outdoor session. My hair color changes depending on the lighting. Sunlight seems to reflect my true color the best.
Your hair looks awesome- very healthy and shiny! My hair is about the same exact length as yours currently and I am shooting for waist length. I am curious how long it will take. I had long hair when I was much younger and I don't remember how long it took to grow. What length are you shooting for?
