I am considering growing my hair. Currently in a buzz but it is so thick, any advice on growing really thick hair?
Thanks for your advice.
My recommendation is to just grow it out and when it goes through the ragamop stage, wear a cap or something. Once it gets long, it'll flatten out on the top and no longer look like you stuck your hand into an electrical outlet.

Actually, if its frizzy, weak hair it will never flatten out except if you wear a hat over wet, combed flat hair. When it dries you will have flat, frizzy hair. Doesn't look too good but if you can live with it, good luck.
Actually it is not weak or frizzy.. It is nice and coarse. I just look so bad... sort of like a Gia pet when I try to grow it out... Very 70's Disco look. I went 5 months without a haircut last year. It was torture for me for a while and then I got used to it. Got it cut in January and now it is very short.
Thanks for the encouragement
Thats what I meant, I have coarse hair too. If i have nothing in it drys very fast and turns into an afro.
I totally envy your thick hair. If I had thick hair, I grow it to waist-length and love every inch of it. Consider yourself lucky. Commit. Bear out a year or so of bushiness and you won't regret it.
Im assuming your hair is thin. The price to pay for thick hair is often dryness and frizziness. It's a LOT harder to make it look good.
On the contrary, not all thick hair fall into the same or even similar categories. My hair is thick and curly, yet at only six inches it already weighs itself down quite nicely. It's as if my hair knows which part I want to flatten out (on top) and which parts to curl (ends). My hair is also not as dry as usual curly hairs, which in all makes me quite lucky. I even have a friend with phenominal hair. Her hair has tight, tight curls, yet is a moisturized and shiny as asian hair. She is truly blessed, she never needs perming whatsoever because her curls never flatten out as it gets longer, even when she had it near her waist years ago. And with the right products she always gets her already great hair to obey the perfection she chooses, whether it be worn freely, in a ponytail or as an afro. She's Filipino by the way. Peace.
I am aware that not all thick hair falls into those categories. You'll notice I said "often." I envy you and your friend.
