Oh well...
Once again I have been depressed that my hair grows so slowly!
I guess that the main problem is that I started with really short hair, and when I decided I wanted long hair I instantly tought of crazy lenghts like the one I'm aiming for... I have been obsessed lately for waist lenght at least and I just can't wait for it... it seems it will never come you know? I just feel my hair isn't long enough for anything, I don't think I even see it as long hair =( I wish I could make it at least grow twice as long... And then I see everyone's hair growing so so so much faster than mine and it just make me sad that my hair is so slowly =( I know that I most likely won't need my hair so long to be truelly happy (in fact, I don't believe anyone does) but I simply have to have it and it's just taking a whole life to come true...
Let time fly pleaaase!!!
Oh and some hair news =P ... I sarted braiding my hair every night to sleep and I find much less tangles in the morning =) So I guess it's turning part of my routine, so a braid everynight keeps the knots out of sight =P Well at least in the morning hehe =P
Also, the oiling has been going great as well, but the dry ends are back in action =S Any special tips right now? I oil when my hair is wet, after washing it (I oil down the ears) and I wonder if I should oil the ends again like two days after washing... would that be a good idea? Oh well...
I have discovered one of my favorite singers (Joanna Newsom) has grown her hair. She had mid-back hair and a layered fringe and she grown all of her hair (including the fringe) making the legth reack her waist... And her hair is red so you can imagine how lovely her hair looks and that also makes me really sad that I am not at her lenght (the same happens with everyone I see wearing hair longer than mine)... Ok, in one word I want my hair to be longer that I can ever see live lol I'm really desperating believe me... It's been one of those tough phases when I can't wait, but know I can't do nothing about it =( Oh well...
Thank's for reading guys and sorry to bother =S I just needed to tell this to someone because I don't want to piss of my family with my hair again for they are so tired of it (of my enthusiasm I guess)...
Anyways, happy growing, and let us all achieve our goals =)
Hey! Yeah haha I feel the same way sometimes, mainly when I watch videos of different bands, and almost all the members have long hair and I can't wait for mine to get longer! But yeah man no worries, from what I can see from your avatar your hair looks great! And I guess the less you think about it the faster it seems to grow.

Hey Joao, I feel the same way as you that my hair is growing way too slowly although my hair is not where yours is in the length department and I can't wait till mine is where yours is interms of length. I too am aiming for waist length hair and maybe even longer in time if it can get that far as no one has grown their hair anywhere near that length in my family. You're hair is truly enviable in both thickness and condition and if mine achieves the same density or even half of what your's has I will be happy.
Take care Joao.
Hey João,
I hear you! I think many of us go through this - it's called having hair anorexia. Even though we have much more hair than we had, say, a year ago, it still feels like we're never getting there.
I want belt-length hair. I have a long way to go but the key has to be in enjoying the journey. Savor the length you have. You're far ahead of others and far ahead of where you started!
You have probably the thickest hair of anyone here. That alone makes you special. Enjoy that, look in the mirror and realize the gift God has given you. That thickness already looks awesome and will be insanely awesome as it gets further down your back.
I want to ask you about braiding for sleeping. I tried it and I found the braid bothers me. Do you sleep on your back? I do a lot and I guess that's why. I was wondering how you found it comfortable to sleep with. It sure would be nice to take out a braid in the morning and not have to worry about tangles.

Well Jao,
I have been watching this board now and posting/replying a few times for the past year and i can attest, your hair is getting longer. When i first started growing mine out about 5 years ago, it seemed like it took 3 years to feel "long".
If you want a great way to see if your hair is getting longer just post an update pic and see how many comments on the length you get. I can promise with hair like that you will only get praise.
peace
Hi Joao,
I don't think of your hair as slow growing--don't forget that you have hair to die for with it's awesome thickness--I still can't get over the thickness of your ponytail. Don't forget the natural wave in your hair may make it seem to reach down your back a bit slower than the perfectly straight hair of some guys here, but it IS growing and you WILL have waist length hair. Just be patient, and think of the incredible volume your waist length hair will have.
David
Hey João,
Your hair will get there eventually, but yes, it's quite aggravating to sit there and wait...and wait...and wait...lol. You definitely have the thickest hair I've ever seen on a guy -- heck, on anyone for that matter, so you should be very proud about that.
If you don't already and have some extra time (though it sounds like you might not due to university), start a hobby or something to take your mind off your hair. Part of the reason I started learning Portuguese was to keep myself busy and to get my mind off hair and other class work. Just don't forget to post here occasionally.
Haha, yeah I can relate to that, though it's with my friends. They usually roll their eyes or laugh if I mention this site or anything dealing with hair. Oh well. Don't let it all get you down. =) Later!

Hey João,
We all know what it's like waiting for a goal, but I really hope you are enjoying the wonderful hair you have now. I would love to have the hair quality and length that you have. I am afraid that when you get waist length hair that you may still not be satisfied, and then set a new goal to wait for. I am not sure that if you woke up tomorrow with waist length hair that you would be satisfied then.
Don't wish the time to fly faster João, it goes way too fast now! Take care
Oi João David! Tudo bem? Não parece.
I am going to box up and mail to you my "magic hair growing wand" first thing in the morning. I have not had any luck getting it to work for me, but maybe, just maybe, you can say a magical incantation as you are waving the wand, and perhaps your hair will begin to grow faster. I am not sure how long it takes for a package to reach Portugal from America, but give it a few days...
Seriously, I feel the same way sometimes. I should have 18 to 20 inches of hair myself now, but have less than half of that. But, I know that I will get there eventually. Patience is hard to muster, but that and time are all that will have you arriving at the hair length of your dreams.
There is certainly no reason for you to be upset as at this very moment, you have some of the best hair that I have ever seen. I would love to have hair as long as yours. Just keep studying hard in school and taking care of your hair as you are now, and you will wake up one morning with your hair at your waist. You will see...it will happen.

you have great looking hair. just be patient. i had asked you once before about getting your ears pierced. have you thought about it. i think you'd look great!
Hey man. I think you have great hair. In my opinion, it seems to be growing pretty fast. If I remember your progress pictures, you're definitely ahead of me, as far how long it took you to get to that length.
Just don't worry about it as much; don't think about it as often. Your hair will get to waist length in due time. Enjoy the time spent getting there, too--it's great watching yourself grow and mature along with your hair length. Also, if you ever get your picture taken, it's a great way to remember a certain "point" in your life, just by looking at your hair length.
Peace
Hey Joao,
You're asking quite a lot of your hair, you havn't been growing your hair all that long, is it just over 2 years? Anyway, for 2 years your hair is at a good length. I've been growing my hair for 5 years and 2 months nearly now and my hair isn't much longer than yours, maybe it looks like my hair has got a year or so more than yours on it, but actually my hair has 3 years on your hair! Whatever you do, don't get too impatient, it'll just get you annoyed. You have VERY nice hair that many on this board probably envy. Also you really don't want to wish time away, it already goes too fast : )
Take care of your hair and when your hair gets to your your waist you will have one majestic mane. You'll be glad you waited!!
Neil
Your hair is deffinately getting longer! For the past 6 or 7 months I've been lurking around here as I'm growing my own to around shoulder length, and I remember feeling for the first time on your last update that your hair is too long for how I want mine now.
As has been said, you have amazingly thick healthy looking hair that is growing every single day weather you like it or not. Enjoy the journey because every month it will never be that length again (unless you cut it, obviously).
Peace out :)
Matt
João,
May I humbly offer the advice of a middle-aged bloke with waist-length hair?
Please stop stressing over length! Your hair will grow, at its own pace, and it won't change its pace because of your wishes; if anything, it'll slow down because you're becoming stressed about it. Let it go; let it do its own thing; and enjoy the ride. You're on a journey right now -- a journey that you don't necessarily know the ultimate destination of (the terminus, if you will) -- enjoy that journey, don't try to second-guess what may be at the end. There will be time for that later on. You're long past the awkward stage; revel in what you have *now*, and don't let long-term desires stand in the way of the *now*.
As far as "starting with really short hair" goes, I'd posit that each and every one of us on MLHH started with really short hair -- it's what we were born with! It's what we decided to do with it that sets us apart from the lemming-like mass of maledom.
I'm at the 5 year mark and my hair has reached the small of my back. Now
I no longer think about my hair growing. But since I have never grown my hair this long before,
I have no idea of where or when it will stop!
Try not to think about it and time will pass more quickly.
Good luck!
Hey man - Your hair does look great just as it is right now. Personally, I'd like to get it to about waist-length too (or maybe belly-button-length), but that'll be a wait - I think I calculated it out to 2 1/2 years or something from where I am now. But for me, it's not really like a GOAL goal, it'd be nice but I'm not really worrying about it.
I know what you mean though - I remember in HS, the first time I grew out my hair, I grew it from a crew cut (started around September). It took forever just to get less short.
Dave
You've got amazing hair, dude! I totally know how you feel seeing longer hair, cuz I get the same thing from your posts! (Though, my hair is touching my back now, so I don't feel so bad!)
BTW, how do you pronounce your name? My limited knowledge of spanish tells me it's "wow"(which would fit when we see your growth), but I also know it's not spanish (portuguese?).
It's only because you are young that time seems to go so slowly. Believe me, when you are 60, it will fly by, and you'll want it to slow down. But at least it makes growing hair easier. It almost seems like it pops out overnight.
Don't worry João. I'll bet your hair is growing faster than you think! In the here and now, time is always moves slower than you think except when you have a deadline, lol. Seriously, you always think of the future as some distance, unachievable thing. Believe me, looking back, you'll wonder where the time went. Be patient, enjoy the ride.
