OK, I've got a situation on my hands and I need some advice, and quick! My mother is really getting annoyed by my bangs, which hang past my nose. She is threatening me to either do something with my bangs by tomorrow or get them cut. Since I'd rather avoid the last option, I'm going to try to do something with them, but I have no idea on what to with them. Just to put the length of my hair into perspective, it is 6 inches on the front (bangs) 5 1/2 on the sides, and 4 1/2 on the back. I've been growing for 4 months so far, and I'd rather avoid trimming at all cost. My hair's also slightly wavy. I would post a picture, but my dad's digital camera's not here at the moment. Anyway, do you happen to have any advice on what to do to keep it out of my face (to not awaken the wrath of my mother)that will not look absolutely ridiculous?
Hi Brandon,
Are they long enough to tuck behind ears? (I can't remember if 6 inches is long enough.) If you still need an inch or two of length before you can tuck them, maybe use a bit of gel to slick them back until you achieve the length.
Hope this helps, and good luck,
David
Thanks David! Anyway, no. There still too short to be tucked behind the ears. I can get the side bangs tucked in, but not the front ones. I lack about 2 or so inches until I can tuck them comfortably behind my ears. However, I do still have some strong holding gel from when my hair was short, so I might try that. It will be weird, since nobody has seen me with hair "parted down the middle", but they'll hopefully get used to it. Some of my friends also advised mouse, so I might try that to keep it in place. Needless to say, I'll be experimenting tonight and will see what's the best. Anyway, thanks for your help, guys! :)
Simple - gel, very strong gel and lots of it - till your bangs are long enough to at least stay comfortably tucked. After that, it won't be long till you can have a ponytail.
Do NOT cut your bangs! It will most likely end your long hair ambitions.
How can hair make someone mad? I also can't believe that you're going to try and "do something with your hair" to please your mother. You need to nip this in the bud with your controlling mother before the way that you breath in and out "angers her"!
Simply but firmly let her know that you were born through her not for her and that you're really quite happy about how your hair looks, thank you very much.
Good luck :)
Peace out.

I had a similar problem once, tell her it's your hair, not hers and you'll do with it as you please. If that doesn't work bobby pins are your friends. **I used to have to use them a lot** Well good luck, and happy growing!

...add gel (like L'Oreal Melting Gel) to damp hair and comb bangs off to each side.
Next, you might want to use 2 hair pins (bobby pins)--one on each side.
It won't take much. Justgrab a piece of hair and push the pin in as far as it will go...
...until it 'disappears'!
Another tip. Use L'Oreal SPRAY gel to hold hair in place and to add a healthy shine.
Keep hair as neat-looking as possible.
I suspect your mother is over reacting because of the approaching holidays and the fact that relatives will be seeing your long hair.
Good luck!
Anyway, thanks for the tips! I tried them out (except for the bobby pin thing. We don't have any) and it's looks fairly decent, though weird (My forehead's freezing!). And to be honest, that's really not the reson my mom's overreacting. It's because it's always in my face, and since I drive, is a little dangerous (at least that what she says) Anyway, I took some pictures:
All combed out. You can tell a difference from a similar pic 3 weeks ago
And here's me a little later with my hair freezed back in place. Man, oh man, am I ever going to freak some people out :P
Hopefully, I'll be able to keep it behind my ears without gel in a few months.
Brandon,
I am glad you found some quick fix ways until your BANGS get long enough to be able to tuck them behind your ears without gel or spray. I also like the way you present your progress pics especially combed all the way down it shows the difference in length of YOUR BANGS and all of your hair from previous updates. Please in future updates please include at least one picture of your BANGS combed down over your eyes/face. A good goal to keep in mind is combed down WITHOUT STRETCHING YOUR BANGS TO SHOW LENGTH. Will be able to comb down and you are able to tuck behind your ears without gel at that point combed down you will probably be able to "eat your bangs" the extra 2 inches you need to be able to tuck behind your ears this was one of my first major milestones knowing that at that point in my growing out my hair that I was becoming a longhair..
Keep it growing and keep us all upto date with progress pics..
LBOF(Long bangs over face).
You hair looks very neat when combed. Oh well, maybe if you
keep it that way her threats will subside.
The answer to your question is simply this: Who pays the bils?
I hate to say this, but it is true. Since I haven't seen your picture I have no idea of your age. If your Mother controls the money, then to a great degree she has control over you. This is the very reason that I am so "very" independent. I love my Mother, but her life is her's and mine is mine.
"The answer to your question is simply this: Who pays the bils?"
I don't mean to bombard the board with my opinion, but I can't resist:
Wrong.

Hi JeffL,
To put it simply: Your thinking's known as "idealism", and the rest's "realism".
Man cannot live on ideals alone, one sometimes have to be a realist. This is a harsh fact, but true.
Peace :).
I don't care what my thinking is called, he has a right to his length of hair regardless of how much money his parents spend on him.
JeffL
I personally think his hair looks fine, but his parents do have certain rights,(within reason) as parents. I know this example is a bit different, however, if my employer asks me to cut my hair then I have two choices: I can cut my hair in order to please my empolyer, or I can find another job. Since my employer is the one that controls the money then I must make a choice. Actually, there is another choice and that choice is diplomacy and that may be his best option in this case, however, if that fails then cutting his hair may be the only option. Either way, it's not the end of the world if he does have to cut his hair as he will soon be of an age that will allow him to make his own choices reagarding such matters.
Yes, but this is not "within reason."
My point is that employer should NOT have the right to tell you how you should look even despite controlling your money. You are not a slave to the corporation, and you should NOT have to leave, either.
JeffL
Just to clarify a few things:
1. My parents are OK with me growing my hair out.
2. The only thing they got mad at was the fact my bangs were constantly in my eyes.
3. They threatened me with cutting my bangs off, not all my hair.
4. I have posted pictures in this thread (the one that says Pics)
Hope this clarifies a few things ;)
Have you tried just combing your hair *away* from your face?
My hair is about the same length as yours. For about a month or two now I have been making it look "presentable" for going to work by simply combing it straight back when I get out of the shower. As it dries, it parts itself in the middle and stays to the sides pretty well. It only covers my eyes if it windy (or if I start headbanging) Maybe I'm just lucky, but this is probably worth a try.
Centre partying and some hair spray to hold it in place was very effective when I was in a similar position albeit without anyone to moan.
The centre part style looks good and you can maintain it until you hair is long enough to sit behind your ears comfortably.
