And, so it has been nearly seven months to the day since my hair was last cut. Im not going into all the things that have happened since then, but simply, here are some pictures that I took today. I think that I am averaging the typical ½ inch per month rate of growth. I was feeling like my hair was beginning to look long again until I saw these pictures. For some reason, it seems like my hair is curling tighter than it did before, further slowing the length that is shown.
Well, I guess that Roma non aedificata est in una die, but when once, on Ducktales, Flintheart Glumgold remarked to Scrooge McDuck the very same sentiment, Scrooge replied that, Rome would have been built in a day if HE was paying by the hour! That, of course, is a non-sequitur, but made all the funnier if you can picture a duck with spats on speaking in a Scots accent.
My hairs growing back slowly, but surely. I had this dream a few nights ago that my hair was nearly waist length it seemed so real. Well, maybe Ill get there. The only hindrance I have now is just whatever genetics I have for maximum length. We shall see You want to talk about patience for long hair. Times it by two for curls. You straight-haired guys have it so easy all your length shows. Well, Im certainly not griping, but you know, just saying
Im not expecting a lot of Oooos and Ahhhhs, since there is not much to ooooo and ahhhhh about, but at least I can grow one hellacious beard in a flying hurry. HAHAHAHA!
See you later, Bragi
Gratutitous Curly Shot
Bragi,
Those ringlets are nothing short of awesome! They must be so fun to pull out. With added weight, they'll turn into long bouncy curls. Looking great!
Thanks, Jason. They are kind of like springs sometimes. You have to be careful not to snap off hairs though when trying to separate them.
More like times three for those curls!!
Bruce
Yes, unfortunately, you are probably right, but then all the sweeter it will be to have acheived such a length.
Thank, Bragi
Hey! Your hair looks great! This picture shows the progress better than the first one, compared to your avatar it looks like it's growing pretty nicely! The curls look really nice and shiny! Keep it growing!
-mihnea
Thanks so much. I have a long way to go before I get back to the avatar length though.
Bragi
Two thumbs and a toe up! (Well, it's more of a piggy wiggle, but you get the idea).
Your hair is certainly coming along in terms of sheen, health, and thickness. Length-wise, I can certainly identify with the frustation of the too-long plateau periods we curly-haired must frequently endure. The awkward stage becomes more the infuation stage, the drawn-out initiation ritual. But the rewards for enduring it are great, so, though I'm confident that you won't, don't give up. I'm nearing two years (if I'm not there already, lol) myself, but I still consider myself waist-deep in the awkward stage. It's a pity, because what I really want to be at my waist is my hair. But I'm sure we'll both realize our dreams, literal and figurative, in the years to come, and we'll look back on these little messages and smile.
A word of caution about those tubes - while they're great-looking and a favorite of female longhair lovers, they're also potential warehouses for knots and trapped sebum and can dread together easily if left unattended for too long (months, but you probably don't do much to them, anyway). What I suggest is periodically unstretching them and feeling for knotted/matted hair, particularly if you're in the shower. I was shocked to discover huge clumps of hair stuck in some of mine that I'd left relatively unattended for months. If a ringlet gets undone in this process, don't worry about it; they reform quickly.
Keep up the frabjous work. :P
Pax
Hi, Fallen Angels, I love your plays on words, very clever.
little messages and smile.
Yes, Aeneas himself said that "Perhaps one day it will be pleasant to have remembered these things."
And actually, you may not believe it, I wash my hair at least every third day and comb it each time gently, so no danger of knots. It is amazing how it goes back into shape pretty quickly as it drys. Sometimes, I can help it along to lock up more but hardly need to do that. And too, I have not snapped a hair in nearly two weeks! I have been amazed. I can imagine though the clumps of hair that would accumulate if I did not do that, just as you are saying.
Thanks again, and pax vobisum etiam,
Bragi
Your hair's texture and curlinesss is almost exactly like mine. I began the goal of waist length about four years ago starting with "longish hair". I've had no cuts other than about an inch taken off the ends. Now, when dry, my hair is a little below armpit level in back; when wet it's mid back.
You can do it! We curly haired guys have to have more patience as so much of our length is lost in the spirals...but always remind yourself THAT IT'S THERE...some of it is just hiding, that's all. And when it does get to your goal length, you'll always know there's MUCH more there than even meets the eye.
Your hair and beard look fantastic Bragi! You have a lot to look forward to in the next few years as your hair gets even more impressive than it is right now.
My best to you!
Thanks, Guymarch. I am not going to run out of patience any time soon. That is inspiring that you have the same hair type and have goten so far.
Thanks again for all the laudatory remarks, Bragi
Hi Matt:
It looks wonderful. You are starting to have hanging ringlets. Long hanging ringlets look awesome. Take a good look at Bodhi. Your hair, when it gets really long, will probably look like his.
Best wishes.
Absalom
Hi Scott, I hope you are right on your prediction. If I even approach the awesomeness that is Bodhi's hair, I will be totally satisfied; it will all be worth it.
Thanks, Bragi
Well Bragi...I commend you for surviving a haircut and getting back on the track that makes you most happy. You're definitely on your way...congrats! And your beard is KILLER!
Thanks Gman, I am a much better beard grower than hair grower, but I will have the cake and eat it too soon.
Thanks again, Bragi
lol..:)
lmao..taking a page outta Bill's book huh? *evil grin*
you had to rub in the face, didn't you? :)) I can't grow any beard to sav my life..grrr!! *starts waving fist at you green with envy*
ok,jokes aside..I think your hair is coming along great..and the curls look great...the pics don't show your length very well though...perhaps a back pic would help..if you have one :)
Thanks Cerebral Assassin,
That's the thing though, a back shot shows no more length than any other angle since the back is slightly shorter than the sides and retracts up further and looks the same length.
Ah, but time shall fix it.
Sorry about the comment, but you will probably find that as you get older you will be able to grow more and more beard.
Thanks, Bragi
It looks really good, sir. The curls will surely delay any "attempt" to get to "ultimate length" (whatever that may be), but you've got a sound mane there. And, by the by, thanks for wearing the safety-belt. All too few folks do these days....
Thanks crfriend,
Curls do indeed delay length perception.
I always try to wear a seat belt. I used to be bad about not wearing it, but I got to thinking that it could save my life one day since I tend to do a good bit of driving.
Thanks. Bragi
Those curls are lokking fantastic. The beard as well. You resemble the actor Jason Patric in the movie "RUSH". Yep. you sure do. Well , continue to grow those curls and lots of Buena Suerte!
~chris~
Thanks Christopher - Jason Patric? - Wow! - He is a very handsome fellow! - That's a huge compliment.
I don't think I ever saw that movie though.
See you later, and lots of luck to you too with your hair travails that you have alluded to.
Bragi
well, I figured someone should ooo and ahhh ! HA!
Hey, seriously, its good to see you posting the return of your fur......the curly look suits you well.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter White Tail
Thanks WWT and thanks for your sense of humor too. You crack me up with some of your replies. Very funny, not funny - weird, but funny - haha...
See you later, Bragi
...very well controlled. That is, you seem to be handling any awkward phase
very well! Looks great.
Over the next few months you will notice dramatic changes, and
by spring your hair will look even longer!
Good luck!
Hi Luckskind,
I use your suggested L'Oreal Melting Gel sometimes. I am used to the awkward phase. I have been in it for approximately three years. The good thing is that until around next summer I know what will be happening hair wise; I call it follicular prescience.
Thanks, Bragi
Oi meu amigo,
Casa contigo?!?
Pois não! ;-)
Atualidade, não posso creer que você não tem um namorado em São Paulo agora. Você è tão lindo.
Atè logo & abraçoes!
Bragi
Hey Matt,
Looks very noticeably longer, --- as well as the beard is hands-down AWESOME!!! You deserve every ooooo & ahhhh that comes to you!!
- Ken
Thanks Ken, you always think of something nice to say.
Bragi
Looking very good. And I agree that the "matching" beard looks great.
Robert
Eho Roberte!
Ago gratias tibi. Barbae sunt frigidissimae, ut bene scis!
Vale, Bragi
Hi Bragi,
Coming along great for only 7 months! It's really weird, but I also had a dream (about 2 weeks ago) that my hair was down to my waist--Oh, well, I guess I can dream, can't I? I have to agree with you that straight-haired guys do have it SO easy, mine is wavy rather than really curly like yours but I still really envy the straight-haired guys. Anyway, all the best and keep it growing!
David
Thanks David N,
I hope your dream comes true too. Stick around and we will both see.
See you later, Bragi
I think the beard looks quite righteous in that picture. I personally keep my beard fairly short, as it tends to poof out too much if I let it go. Your beard growth looks good though.
Vince
Thanks, Vince.
Actually, the beard is the length that I usually want to trim it, but fo some reason, I think I will let it keep going till at least the new year. I had toyed with the idea of growing the goatee portion very long in order to be able to braid it as Mesmerized and I discussed some days ago. But then again, I only think I get looks of disapproval now! I may grow it out of spite though. HAHAHAHA! That would be funny. We shall see.
Thanks, and see you later, Bragi
Very cool look you've got going on there. You could easily star in a Scorsese film!
Hi Pablo,
Thanks, that would be fun to play a mafioso-type character in a film. I would ruin it though when I opened my mouth. Can you imagine playing a Sicilian speaking in Italian with a Southern US accent. I would need a voice coach for sure! I could only play a silent henchman in the back ground.
Thanks, and I missed you update last time. By the time I saw it, it was way down the board. You have shown significant length gain.
Bragi, the curls are great: well-defined and shiny! I like 'em. The reference to ducktales was nice. I used to watch that show when I was in grade 8 and 9. (Hey, I have younger siblings....that's the excuse I'll use.)
You do have one Hellacious-Good Beard, there. Well done! I also like how all your pics follow a theme: car, sunglasses, damn cool-lookin' dude. Three ingredients for a nice picture of a dude anytime.
Keep up the great progress.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
PS Ooooh and Aaaah...just for you!
Thanks Mr. Crow,
So the snow lies deep in Ontario! I have not seen snow in years since I was in Indiana several years ago one winter.
Thanks so much for the compliments!
For continuity and "mystique", I just keep on taking any pictures I post in the same place - from the truck. When my hair is tangled in the seat belt, I will then have arrived.
Thanks, Bragi
Hey, Bragi.
I think your hair is coming along good so far. and don't mind the curls too much, I think they look nice. Lenght isn't everything, right? Very cool beard by the way. =) Wish I could grow it as thick and dark as you.
Hejsan Herr Metall-Svensk,
Vi ses, Bragi
That's an awesome update, Bragi! It's a shame that it takes curly hair so much longer to appear longer, but with that kind of thickness, I'm not sure I'd mind too much. Sweet beard, too! =)
-James
Thanks so much. Actually, my hair is rather fine, and not all that thick!
Bragi
\: That's an awesome update, Bragi! It's a shame that it takes curly hair so much longer to appear longer, but with that kind of thickness, I'm not sure I'd mind too much. Sweet beard, too! =)
Looks great, Bragi. Those curls are looking great, and that beard is killer! Keep it up.
Thanks SOADdude, I'm gonna catch up to you one day! HAHAHAHA!
Looks fantastic Matt!
Those ringlets will look great with added length.
- Oren
Thanks, Oren. I spied a picture of you the other day on the beardcommunity.com board. That's a big "WOW!"
Bragi
Looking quite cool Matt! Well even if you will have to wait longer than us straight hairs you will have some awesome curls when they do get some length. If growing out is a test of patience and character well than you end up with twice the character as a straight hair. I am sure there is a research paper in there somewhere :)
At least you no longer have that artificial barrier of 'acceptable' length long hair you had to keep around before, now its to the end!
Congrats
Thanks Chris. I always need paper topics, this could very possibly be one!!!
I don't mind the wait, I just enjoy the ride.
Bragi
