All the products, and showers taking a looong time is getting too much of a hassle for me. Washing less frequently (so that my scalp produces less oil) should help. So I decided I'm going to start doing that. I'll start tomorrow. Because I used leave-in conditioner and anti-frizz cream this morning, I'm going to have to shampoo tomorrow morning to get that out. I'm going to use a small amount of shampoo. Then I won't wash again until at least Sunday morning.
Does this sound like a good plan?
Any tips?
What about conditioner? How often should I use it?
I only wash my hair every couple of days because when I do wash, my hair gets very puffy. I do use conditioner everytime I wash, even the leave-in conditioner. It calms the puffy hair. I think it depends on your hair texture as to whether you'll need any conditioner or how much.

Thats exactly what im doing. im washing once every two days. i use to wash 4 days in a week(7 days). I am also trying the no-cone method. I heard that shampoos containing silicone ingredients such as dimethicone, clog up your hair follicles.
I mentioned in a post a few days back that I have been shampooless for a while now. Something I didn't mention in that post was that even though my hair tends to be oily and heavy, that only lasts a day or two. Perhaps that's just because I get used to it again after washing, but I can go a week without showering and feel fine.
Before I was shampooless, I could only go a few days before feeling totally gross. I'm not sure, but it might be possible that the scalp only produces oil when it gets wet? Anyway, I thought I would mention this because it seems to me like washing less will indeed help with oily hair (which might seem like backwards logic, but experience prooves it right).

I would say try one day alterations at first, and slowly ween yourself off the chemicals. Like most habits, you shouldn't drop it cold turkey like that... So I would start by washing your hair normally tomorrow, and then skip ONE day. If that works well for you for like a month or two, switch down to washing every two days, and so on. You also asked how often you should condition, well the answer is simple as often as you shampoo. The conditioner is there to moisturize your hair after you shampoo strips it. The rest of the time, let the natural stuff do it's work!
good luck growing,

Hi Jake,
My hair is obviously dryer than yours, as I find that if I shampoo more than twice a week, my hair gets really dry and more prone to tangles, etc. My "worst hair days" are always the days I shampoo it. (I always condition)

I would almost tend to think wash and Condition 2 times per week and this should give you no problems at the length your hair is presently at. You might even be able to get away with 3 times in two weeks. It is different for all of we guys and one has to experiment just a bit.
A posting below by "Shim" seems most interesting as I have never heard of doing this before. You might want to try his suggestions 1st? This may indeed work better for you than what I have suggested.
Always as part of the washing routine.
