Winter is here, it's dry. With my hair just about waist-length now, it generates quite a bit of static. I touched my computer, and I actually heard a pop in the speakers. Fortunately, it seems OK since I'm typing on it right now. It's funny. You forget about this stuff and then you remember it all again. Last year I kept a wrench nearby. Whenever I got ready to use the computer, I made sure to pick up the wrench and touch it someplace else first. It turns out the metal flashing at the corner of the wall is grounded, and the spark will jump right through the paint. Grounding through a metal ob ject like this (for those who don't know) has the advantage that the spark doesn't jump from your body so you don't feel a shock.
This makes me wonder. Have other guys noticed more static as they've grown out, or am I just imagining it?
It certainly was difficult to shave. It was almost like I had my hand on a VanDegraph generator. BTW, this is also my last shave until Spring. I've sort of gotten into the habit of growing Winter beards. I could kick myself for not having done it last week--I knew the cold was coming.
Yeah static can get pretty annoying, and it looks like it's getting worse every year as my hair gets longer, even though last winter was my first winter endured with long hair. I'm guessing it just looks worse since there's more hair to comb.

PS. I wish I could grow a kickass beard, my mouth was freezing cause of the wind chill yesterday!
I definitely have to ground myself on the corner of stereo I keep near my laptop before I touch it. I don't always remember and sometimes I shock it but it still works. Not always so lucky we have a cd player that took a real hit with a shock VERY loud for static and afterward I could smell it
This burned out several of the buttons where the contact was made so now most of the controls can only be accessed with the remote!
I will have to pay attention and see if I notice more power behind he shocks this time since my hair is longer.
Get yourself a humidifier. Problem solved.
Before my hair dreadlocked, I had some static problems, but now it's not really any different than with short hair.
I haven't noticed any changes in static problems. So... I dunno ;)
Get some coffee cans (plastic or metal) fill them with water and place them over your floor register vents.
I used to do this all the time and it worked great.
