Eight months have passed end of decemember will be the ninth. im so use to having my hair in good shape a lil mohawk , spiked , blow dried to the side with high lights , crewcuts... i have to say this is by far the most challenging style i have dreaded because i cant be a damn thing about the ackward stage. i recieved advice i should not striaghten it cause of split ends then again it cost alot of money by professionals n i cant deal out all that cash every 3 months tats if it even stays with my thick curly hair.. im sick of wearing this bloody visor hat .. i have flips at the end of my neck.. but i am persistent to go on n complete this hair style cause i want to!!.
but with curly , thick hair out of control & i cant even straighten it its a pain... is there any good hair styling advice i have gel , hair wax , moose , aloe gel , good conditioner & shampoo i cant control it n it drives it crazy. i dont mean to sound like a ranting baby but damn im sure u guys been threw this n know the hell im going threw here , how much longer u think it will take before it finally ends 8 months ... 5 inches of hair around = 3/4 of a inch per month... ive been mocked repeatitly by my family being called TOM HANKS in castaway by my sister , then i went a diner a month ago with my hair back i get called jean claude van dam by my group of friends .. then my mother calls me a cave-man ... all good n well ill post some pics with my friends digital camera in 2 - 3 weeks ill have the last laugh.. merry xmass & a happy new years
this is a bummer. about the family comments I mean. I thought tom hanks in castaway (the tom hanks after 5 years on the island tom hanks) looked kind of cool. but anyway, as far as i know, you don't have a lot of options unfortunately. you can grease down your hair. you can comb it back and saturate it with hair spray. wear a hat or visor as you are doing. wear a bandana. or you can let it fly around and tough it out, but I know how when you do that, the time sloooooooooooooows dowwwwwwwwn. but unless someone else has a better idea, these are the possibilities.
Did it dawn on them Tom Hanks looks that way in Cast Away because
his plane crashed?

Hey dude: Been there...called that! I've been called Willie Nelson by my mom and Jesus by some friends at work. In fact at the coffee shop last weekend a "friend" suggested we have a bet and get me to shave my hair off!!! Pissed me off! Actually, I liked Tom Hanks hair in that movie too. I have thick curly hair and it can be a pain at times. I'm at 16.5 months and believe me it gets better. By summer you should be about over the awkward stage. As some have said, in time people will accept it and maybe even start liking it (not that you need them too.) The great thing about this site is that we've ALL been there too brother. So keep that goal on the horizon, cause that's what your working (growing) towards, and "Rhino" through it. Peace - Brucester
If you can put up with a mohawk, I'm sure you can live through t this!
Hey brother , I am also having a hard time with my hair. My family ridicules me everyday claiming that my hair looks like a wig. I have this one friend that says my hair resembles Michael Myers hair. His mask...(Michael Myers the fictional serial killer from the movie Halloween). A few days ago i started to beleive all the smack they were talking and sought help on this board. As always, everyone showed support and gave me honest opinions so I thought , To hell with my family! Im not giving in and cutting it. Im just toughing it out and enduring this damm awkward phase.
