Hi everyone,
Just wanted to thank everyone who gave me advice on the "nipping MPB in the bud" thread below. After seeing Jeffrey's success, and assessing all your comments, I have made an appointment with my family doctor in two days from today to hopefully get a consultation with a dermatologist. I'm not even sure if I have early MPB or normal thinning with age (I'm 53), but hopefully, an expert can tell. It seems as though Avodart is the way to go rather than Propecia (any way to persuade the doctor to prescribe one or the other?). If any of you have any insights about the correct questions to ask my doctor, I would appreciate it. Naturally, I am VERY nervous about this, as it involves quite a lifestyle change and commitment, but the future of my hair is extremely important to me right now. I sure hope I am doing the right thing. Wish me luck!
David
Hi David! I wish you best of luck for your doctor's appointment! Whatever the case will be, keep that hair growing!

Hi there David. If you get a chance, please check out the post below concerning pics and stuff. Well, there is certainly nothing to be nervous about, however your MD may not prescribe avodart for you since hairloss would be an off lable use and even if he does he might have to try Propecia for one year. I would try the Propecia first. I must tell you something before you try either one. For the first 1 1/2 months on propecia I had trouble getting an erection, then after that it was ok. Now, when I switched to avodart, one year later, I had the same problem for about one week, then my libido increased well over baseline. Now my libido is about like it was when I was in my teens, probably due to the increase in testosterone. Testosterone will increase by about 19 or 20% on avodart, however DHT will be nearly non-existant. Well, good luck and let us know how it goes. I'll be gone for 5 or 6 days, but I'll take those pics when I get in. Jeffrey.
....all we "Skullets" are eagerly awaiting your full report.
Thanks for the support and encouragement. Naturally I am nervous, and secretly hoping that I don't have MPB. I don't really want to go on expensive drugs for the rest of my life, but if that is what is needed to ensure the future health of my hair, I will do so.
David
Good luck David. I'll be interested in what you find out.
