I´ve had problems with my scalp for quite some time now. It´s really dry and itchy. My hairdresser recommended a special shampoo, but I´m not really sure if it works. I´ve been using different kinds of gel for several years, and I thought the problem came from them, so I stoped using gel four days ago. The thing is, it still itches, although not as much.
I´ve tried many different ways of using the shampoo too. Sometimes once week, sometimes 2-3 times a week and sometimes I just used it as soon as I felt itching. It seems like the itching stops when I use it almost every day, and that seems to be way too much.
I´m really worried that this will be a serious problem for my chances of growing long hair. Please help!
There will be some who will disagree with me here; but I've been a life-long enthusiast of regular dry-brushing. I NEVER use a hair brush when my hair is still wet or even damp, --- in that case I use a comb (like if needing to untangle after showering and shampooing / conditioning). But, any morning or evening when my hair is totally dry, and expecially anytime my scalp is itchy, I use a hair brush. Starting with the ends, first, I eventually work my way up to thorough and sometimes even vigorous brushing that includes quite a wonderful-feeling stimulation and itch-relief for my scalp. This also helps distribute the scalp's natural oils down the hair shaft. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've thought I needed to shampoo my hair (because my scalp felt very itchy), that instead of shampooing, I decided to give my hair just a very good brushing. It works! And surprisingly, only if it's been several days since I last shampooed will my hair actually look "greasy" afterwards.
Everybody's hair is different. But, I remember very vividly when I heard my grandmother's generation constantly mention brushing their hair "100 strokes" every morning. If it worked for them, and it works for me, then I'd suggest you at least give it a try!
