Why do men grow their hair long, then wear it in a ponytail all the time? what's the purpose of growing it long if you're just going to tie it up and hide it? I think men probably shouldn't wear long hair, especially if they're beginning to bald. It looks too "hippyish". Just like women don't wear ties, men shouldn't wear long hair. Certain codes apply to each sex.

Are we going back to codes that apply to each sex?
ok, sorry. i didn't mean to get everyone all upset. so does there really need to be a long-hair support group? hasn't society accepted men in long hair yet? i'm just a bit conservative, but it's ok for men to wear long hair.
i'm not upset... just trying to enlighten you. read your original post...
you go from 'why do men grow long hair then hide it in a ponytail' to 'men shouldn't wear long hair', and your last sentence, 'certain codes apply to each sex'... that bit is the basis for all that is done to us... from the laughable and relatively innocuous comments and stares to the injurious economic warfare; denying employment & promotion... all because we don't conform to the 'code'. and you ask, 'hasn't society accepted men in long hair yet?'... you're part of society and have shown with great eloquence why this exists.
it's ok that you're conservative and very nice for you to say that it's ok for men to wear long hair... it would be fine for you to think otherwise too, as i'm not out to get you or anyone else to think like me- i accept people for their differences; i just wish people would accept me for mine.
Mellisa,
Your first post is a perfect example of why there "needs" to be a support group for long-haired men! People still have this urge to impose their personal preferences on other people, including men with long hair. While many people do accept others for who they are, there are still an awful lot of them who just can't handle anyone who steps outside of the mold.
I happen to love the look and attitude of most longhaired men,and wish more men would ditch the scissors.Again, that's a personal preference.
Oh,one more thing....I'm sure all the guys here appreciate you giving them the OK to wear their hair long ;)
Wow, I am amazed. The part about "hasn't society learned to accept men with long hair" really intreges me. You don't accept it so mmmm, maybe others don't either. That is really shallow to embrace codes that sexes must adhere to. I think if all the men adhered to the code, we would have millions of the same guy walking about. How boring not to mention how pathetically un-unique and uncreative. I guess you can't really see past the hair. If you're conservative, that's fine, but I don't really care.
I really have no idea what possessed you to post an anti-long hair message on a mens long hair message board. Do you really think we are going to say, "hey, she has a point there"?
Use some discretion and judgement before expressing your opinions next time.
when i wear mine in a ponytail, it's to keep it out of the way when i'm at work... and when it's windy.
if you have such an opinion about men with long hair then why are you bothering to post at a long hair support board?
If we're not starting to bald, we "look like a girl". If we are, we "look like a hippie". Yeah, it's another attempt at the same tired old slurs. But actually, honey, you can call me a hippie anytime you want. Hippies are awesome!
Celebrate it long!

Wow. This is so damn ridiculous that it has to be real and not a troll for flames. Melissa, where in the world have you found the "certain codes apply to each sex?" Where is it written? Who has ordained it be so? Why do men have to look a certain way and women have to look a certain way for you to accept them? Why are you so limited in your views that you would force those limitations on others?
Your statement and questions show you have very little knowledge of the world. I take it also, that you keep your hair short. Either that or you don't think the same laws of physics apply to longhair on men as it does on women. The reason I keep my hair back in a tail is to keep it out of my face while I am doing other things. Like driving, eating, working, etc.,. Just a practical thing. I know plenty of women with longhair who make the same choice. Then again, perhaps you are the type of person who prefers to douse their head in sticky chemicals to hold their hair in place like some sort of helmet. If that works for you, fine. Just don't project that onto others.
Catch a clue girl! Take a breath, let it out, and accept the fact that the world is full of individuals and mindless clones who all look alike and conform to some mindless fashion standard of physical appearance.
Have a nice day to!

PS: This image shows the primary reason I keep my hair back in a tail!
Sounds like my sister. One of those "my way or the highway" people. Of course, in the end, I did get my way and am in the process of growing it out again. I also told here to NEVER again touch my hair and not to complain. It's none of her business whether or not I'm longhaired.
I also find that it's more comfortable that way. Sometimes even gets rid of nasty headaches.
Exactly!

why do poeple always want to turn to whole world into one big foot-ball-team!
Dear Melissa,
the usual business requests for long haired men are to put in a ponytail or to cut it off. I want it long so I have to put it in a ponytail.
I personally love long hair on women very much but I also love it long on me. For me it's a kind of feelings relating me to long hair. I have learned something about hair care and try to use it on myself and I recognize a little progress in the quality of my hair. You can be sure that I fear male pattern baldness as my soul may fear the devil but I didn't want to give up my hair why someone else thinks it should be short. It would be like a castration of feelings.
If you look at the history of mankind you can see that the opinion about the males hair has changed several times. There exist time periods where long hair on men was the usual style and I am not sure if the todays male population is much more happier. Things can change and I only hope that scientific progress will find ways to help against this hair loss and that society will evolve in a way that every human being can wear hair like he wants it.

Taking the first half of what she says here - the second half has
been well addressed already!
She has a point.
Read it again carefully "... ALL THE TIME".
I wear my hair loose 99% of the time, because it sure looks better
and I too feel "what's the point" if I'm going to hide it in a
'tail ALL the time.
This is NOT to disparage guys who like 'tails, but it sure seems
rare to see it worn loose. I understand that it's often required
for a job, etc - I'd do it too, but take it down after work. And
I do put mine in a 'tail if I'm doing car work, etc.
Wearing it loose can be a real pain at times - but I feel the benefits
outweigh the disadvantages!
This subject has been beat to death before, let's not let it start a
flamefest!
On a side note,I happen to like ponytails on men,'cause it's so fun to slide that band off and set all that hair free :)
Certain codes would have you housecleaning, peeling the carrots, and potatoes, wearing skirts, knitting and sowing. right?
Haha, good one :D
Hey Melissa,
If there was a code to be followed, you should not have surfed along to these pages. Upon seeing this site, you should have turned tail and vamoosed
"It looks too "hippyish". Just like women don't wear ties, men shouldn't wear long hair. Certain codes apply to each sex."
I think thats a bunch of hog-wash. Who are you to tell me how I should or shouldn't wear my hair? It doesn't affect you at all in any way because I have long hair, so really, why does it matter to you? Would you like it if I told you that wearing your color of eyeshadow was terrible? It isn't anything to me, so I don't intrude on your life and tell you what you shouldn't be doing. If you want to wear a tie, I say go for it! k.d. Lang, baby! :)
And, BTW, I dont wear a pony-tail. My hair cascades down my back. :)
