Hi everyone, this is my first post here. This forum seems like a very friendly environment.
I have been trying to grow my hair out for about a year (as in I had it cut short a year ago). I would like to try to grow it out to the length and style Agent Sands has.(see the Johnny Depp picture) The first thing I would like to know is if there is a name for this hairstyle. Is it a bob?
Now, the problem is that it seems the top layer has to grow out and come down much more than the back (or any layers in between). Is this accurate? Well, I thought so, therefore, Every few months, I have been cutting an inch or so off the back myself, so that the top layer can catch up. Is this a bad idea?
I am kind of scared to go to a hairdresser, because I went to one about 7 months ago (5 months into growing it out), and she told me that if I want to grow it out properly, I should come back every 6 weeks to get split ends taken care of etc. I figured she was just trying to make money off me, so I have been ignoring her suggestion. Is it OK to keep growing out the top layer without worrying about maintenance?
OK, here is my final question: How long does it have to get in order for me to put the bangs behind my ears without it looking stupid? (i.e. curling up irratically) Right now, I can touch my chin with my bangs.
Thank you very much for helping me, I REALLY appreciate it. Please let me know if anything I said is very wrong, and I need to change my ways if I ever want to reach my goal.

I have no idea what needs to be done to your hair to make it look as it does in the picture, but personally I would avoid any trimming unless it is absolutely necessary. Even 1" is a long time worth of growth, and every bit cut is time added to reaching your goal.
Good luck!

Well,
First off, gettin the split ends trimmed every 6 weeks will make your hairdresser rich.....not at all necessary
I look through my hair throughly every few weeks or so and remove the splits myslef with a pair of sharp scissors (actually i use a pair of nail clippers that are used only for this purpose)
If the length in the pic is what you are going for, then trimming the back might be just what you need to do, only if the front is long enough though to not make it look kinda funny. But since you said your hair is down to your chin, then i dont see a problem at all.
As for as how long it should take to get your hair to stay behind your ears?......honestly i dont remember it was so many years ago.

I would say to just let your hair grow out for a year without any trims. At that time you can access the whole situation and go from there. This should be a very "easy" hair style to achieve.
Hello Dude,
Well 1st of all, i would like you to know that I'm indeed a great fan of the great Johnny Depp. If you like the hair style in Once Upon A Time Mexico, then check in Blow, this guy is awesome.
Well, me too had try to keep hair like that, but remember that everyone hairs differ from each other. This style is the same as Kurt Cobain, that is the front and the back hair is of same length.
If your hair is normally staight(not so much), like in the pic, just get a professional get everything cut same length. Even if you feel it don't fit you, annony people. Just let it grow and in about 8th months, you'll feel happy and look great.
Just send a pic if you decide to go with what i said above.
Another thing, in this pic there is lots of stuffs, like shine lotion, wet lotion in this pic, Johnny's hair is not like that in real, it is better.
Cheers
P.s:- I'm going to post my pic next week, check my hair
looking forward to it!
And I saw blow; hahaha awesome movie! didnt like the hair too much, I prefer agent sands because it seems more tidy (and hey, with those sunglasses.... :D )
My hair is wavy, so I probably cant have it just like in the picture. It's not long enough in any direction to get what I want right now. Actually, right now, I would just like to focus on taking care of it (like I havent been lately) so it is still viable when it gets to that length I want.
