Hello all,
I've been growing my hair for about 12 months now and its at that stage in which you can't do much with it. Its about ONE inch below my ears, and its basically impossible to get it to stick in one place. As a result its in my face, and if I put it behind my ears, it sticks out sideways....it looks like I got a UFO on my head...when the wind blows it, its terrible!!! - I got straight hair too, but when I go out in public I feel like I look shitty, and I get the idea people look at me like that too....(I recognise this is probably a self concious thing)It kind of damages my confidence if you know what I mean.
Anyway, yeah, Its pissing me off, and I reckon 6 to 10 months or so and it will be shoulder length and even.
Based on these annoying little problems, I have some questions.
When it gets to shoulder length, does it flatten itself out? I have straight hair, but still, at the ends (only at the back) it can curl, and its annoying when the rest is straight, and bits at the back do their own thing...Blow drying doesnt help it much either it seems.
I find the current length (medium length - one inch below my ears) difficult to style (and keep completely straight) so when it gets long, is it harder? or does it become a bit easier? I hope it sits a bit better.
And most importantly, is this bitch of a stage really worth going through to get long hair? Sometimes I want to cut it, but I think id regret it deeply!! so is it worth it?
Thankyou for reading this long post, and If anyone can lend some much appreciated advice, I'd be grateful. Any advice appreciated! =]
Thanks in advance!
Andy.
most likely when your hair gets longer you'll find that it has some wave to it- that it's not perfectly straight. the weight of longer hair will tend to hang better- and if you grow it long enough you'll have the option of tying it back into a ponytail.
whether or not this stage is worth it for you depends on how badly you want long hair.
Don't worry, there's hope. It sounds like you have the exact same problems I did. It all gets better with time (and length). My ends curled up too, and once it got longer (it's now a little past the shoulders), they straightened out. There's always a little curl or wave to it, but not nearly as bad. And if it's too much some days, I wet it down a little and that takes care of it. It's a lot easier to style now that it's long.
Don't give up, it's worth it!
From what I gather from the board, I guess we just have to ride it out and bite the bullet. :-)
If you truly want long hair I WOULDN'T cut it, because after you do and you decide to try growing it out again, you'd have to start the "annoying stage" FROM THE BEGINNING! At least now you're somewhat through it. Just know that there are others who going through this with you right now (like me).
If I could only get past the "hair falling in my face" stage. It refuses to stay put behind my ears and gels or sprays only last so far into the day for me. But, I am determined to be in this for the long haul. Thanks to all on this board who provide encouragement to us "in-betweeners". It does make it easier!

OH dude Ive cut my hair twice at that inbetween stage and regreted it massively, hey this time I just said bare with it sucker and you know after about 3months of self doubt Im out on the otherside.3 months thats it,small price to pay.YOU CAN DO IT TIGER.
Hi. Like the board. Guy with long hair myself. Another option you can do during the "annoying stage" is try getting a perm. Yeah, I know it sounds weird and all but that is what I did. It made the hair look better and before you know it, the hair will grow out and slowly loose the curls, etc. It helped me get past that annoying stage for sure.
just think how much it mustve sucked in the 1930's-50's when a dude craved long hair but thought he was abnormal for not wanting to look like a man. at least now there are options. i think its funny that it used to be the gays had long hair now the gays look like jarheads etc. as an observation look how tom cruise had long hair when he was with a woman and now that he's seperated it's buzzed. just an observation Tommy boy!!!!
