Best brushes/combs?

  I've pretty much given up combing or brushing my hair because I want to avoid split ends. Also, I find that the more I brush/comb it, the more it curls up erratically at the ends.

  Can you suggest a kind of comb or brush that doesnt do this? I have used 2 kinds of brushes: the kind with the plastic balls on the ends of metal rods, and one with boar hair bristles. As for combs, well, I stopped using them because I felt they were creating a lot of friction and therefore would be damaging my hair. Am I wrong?

  I have wavy hair, by the way.

    I have thick, curly/wavy hair and find that what works best for me is a wide-toothed comb to distribute conditioner in the shower and leave-in conditioner afterward. Aside from that I don't use a comb or a bruch, as they tend to make my hair frizzy if I use them when it's dry.
