Sure, the awkward phase is a pain.
But there is another phase that to me is even worse. I call it the "deceptive phase". That is when you appear to have finished that awkward phase, you can make ponytails and braids and at least superficially, appear to be a long hair.
But... There are still holdouts: sections of hair that refuse to catch in the clips, pins or bands.
For me, it was a lock of hair about the size of a pencil, that originates from my widows peak. I'd get ready for work, do the tail or the braid and give a spritz of hairspray for good measure. But invariably, by midday, that lock of hair would come loose and would hang beligerantly across my right eye. It was such a common event that I gave the lock a name: Shanequa
Now, 19 months into this growing process, Shanequa has been vanquished! She is securely held hostage and must spend her day with the rest of the hair.
Hallelujah!

Congratulations! 19 monthes? I guess I have a ways to go for all my "shanequas" to behave themselves.
Take care,
Bruce
You named your hair?
o.0
Not all of it, just that one stubborn lock of hair that pestered me. The name, by the way, is an allusion to a hair style I've seen sported by certain women...
Well I've names other parts of my body..... ;-)
Lol!! Do you pronounce it, "Shah-nah-quah"... or, "Shayn-quah"??
This is a VERY important thing for all of us to know, William, --- especially considering many of us here may begin to adopt the name ourselves!
Take care. Your hair is lookin' great, BTW!
- Ken
I thought it was, "shah-nee-quah".
Ken,
It's pronounced "Shah-NEE-kwah"
It follows the standard formula: 3 syllables; first and third syllable with the "shwah" sound and the second syllable with a long vowel sound.
Hi William,
Congratulations to your victory over Shanequa! When do you plan to post some update pictures to celebrate your victory?

Not until after the incisions from my eyelid surgery heal some more...
