Anyone heard of a Brazilian rock band called Angra? I just stumbled upon their website and was impressed to find photos of five guys with really incredible, healthy-looking long hair. I haven't listened to the music clips yet.

I have not heard of them, but you are right; they do have cool hair. I will check them out. I think Felipe's hair is the coolest, to me anyway.

They have only played the USA three times to my knowledge, and I was unable to see them :( But they are a very high-energy band with some serious shredding guitar going on and one of the best drummers in melodic metal today. They also work in some elements of Brazilian/latin music in with the heaviness. I'm mostly a fan of their second-singer era; those three albums (plus a 'mini album') are awesome. You should be able to find their most recent two albums, Temple of Shadows and Aurora Consurgens in well-stocked music shops in the US. Highly recommended to fans of Maiden, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, and the like.
I've seen them here in Europe and they are very good. So when you say they are "awesome" what kind of level of greatness is that!!!

Well, we do not often get bands like that touring through the U.S. So I have a reactionary partiality to hearing it, and yes this may color my opinion unfairly. But still, in my opinion they are one of the top-10 bands in their field.
I'm pretty big into power metal/melodic metal and the like...Yes they are quite good. I have a couple albums (and the rest that I couldn't find in mp3 form) Hoping they'll come somewhere in New England soon...
