Since I moved to new York a year ago I haven't been taking good care of my hair. I am thinking of a trim within the next months or so.
Any good places in Manhattan or the other boroughs to get your hair trimmed. I have about 50 dollars to spend.
I lived in NYC from '84 - '87, so the place I used to go may not be there anymore... BUT, just in case, it was called: "Bumble & Bumble's", --- or something like that. A lot of hair stylists there had long hair themselves, and will do EXACTLY as you wish (or at least the guy I went to did); but, they are definitely on the pricey side... like, as I recall back in the '80s, at least $30 (so probably considerably more now).
Hope that helps! And also glad to see you say hello here again, Kenneth, --- it's been a long time!!
Take care.

I work for a messenger company and Bumble and Bumble was one of our clients. Their main office is on 13th between 8th and 9th ave.
I have visited some of their salons while working as a messenger.
I'll try it.
I lived in NYC for 31 years, know it and love it, but have repatriated to Appalachia in 1993 where I can speak the language without accent.
In NYC I often used the East side subway station at Astor Place, the local stop that serves NYU and Wshington Square.
There were several barber shops on that short street between Cooper Union & Broadway. One of them said, Haircuts 75 cents. Another one siad, We repair the 75 cent haircut for $1.00
My suggestion to you is to go to the 75 cent shop, which probably charges $3.00 now, walk in a survey the mechanics. Make sure that they are all lisenced by the state. Choose one, and ask if he has ever had the opporetunity to help a guy to maintain long hair. If he says "No," ask him if he is willing to learn. If he says yes, sit down in his cxhair.
Then tell him your preference of having your hair cut wet or dry, and tell him that you want him to take of no more than one centemeter or 1/2 inch. Tell him that it is OK if he does not take off enough, for you will be back next week for another 75 cent roll. But, Junior, if you take off more than I have requested you will never see me again.
The liklihood is that you can get a really good haircut, and have enough money to take a good friend to dinner on East 9th. or Second Avenue.
Don't tell me this worlkd has disappeared. I am sdure inflation has raised its ugly head, but I will be curious to hear what is on that block now.
Possibly $2000./mo. condominium efficiencies -- You may have to go to The Bronx or Union City to get a good hair cut now.
Whatevere\ you do, do not go to one of those pricy joints on Madison Ave. You can buy your own wine, and you don't need to drink so early in the day anyhow. A
After two glasses of wine you would not dare say "I can't believe what you have done to my hair. Do you have malpractice insurance?".
Oh, what a wonderful place, NYC. The original Disney land with the original Star Wars bar -- someone from every Gallaxy.
