I have been reading this posts and find it very interesting. I had a question if someone can help me out. My husband is trying to grow out his hair and I am very supportive of that. I have always loved guys with long hair. He is a disable veteran and was in the military for 11 years and so of course he always had to deal with having the short buzz cut type hair and has always wanted long hair. However, right now, I guess he is in an awkward phase...He hair is growing out and the way it is, even when he brushes his hair, looks very messy and unhealthy. I was wondering if this is normal, should he get it trimmed, but keep the length...And how long does this phase usually last??? I have provided a photo of him. Thanks!
Hi Jaime,
Great to hear we have another convert to a future longhair! He's probably going through the "awkward phase" right now, which we all go through. The best thing is NOT to cut it, the awkward phase goes by faster if the hair is not cut at this time. Eventually, he'll be able to tuck the hair behind his ears, and then, will be able to wear it in a ponytail. By all means, encourage him to KEEP IT GROWING!

which guy is your husband?the guy on the right or left?the best thing he could do is just let it grow for the first 2 years...it's natural for hair to grow "out" first...eventually it will start growing "down" as gravity will eventually take over.hopwe this helps :)
Welcome aboard!!!! The akward phase is a pain in the neck. The hair always looks messy no matter what. The only advice i can give is to let it grow. Do not cut it because it will only prolong the growth process. After you reach your goal length , Go in for a maintenance cut. Tell the hairdresser to only remove the split-ends. For now , hang in there and do not cut it. Try applying some alcohol-free gel or maybe some type of natural oil to help tame it. Good luck and happy holidays.
