Yes, I'm a girl, and yes I know this is strictly men's board, but I'm here for a friend who is a guy. He has long straight hair and is fed up with it. He asked me how to add some curls or waves, but my hair is naturally wavy and I have no idea... I can see it really bothers him, he's even thinking about cutting it. He has breathtaking hair (*sigh*) and it would be such a shame. I know he'd regret it later, so I decided to find some information.
So... can you guys help? Does any of you have completely straight hair and do you know how to add some waves or curls to it, that look natural? How do you style your hair anyway?
By the way, I liked all the pics... (well I had to have a look, since I was already here) Long hair looks sexy on guys, but unfortunately it's rare. So keep growing hair, and take care of it.
There's an easy solution to that. He can braid his hair (if it's long enough for that) and after a couple of hours or so it will be wavy. This is a lot safer than using a curling iron or getting a perm. If he showers at night, he can just put it in a braid overnight. If he showers in the morning, he can put it in a braid when it's still damp and let it down once it's mostly dried.
Is it easy to restraighten? I have wanted to experiment with waves too.
Yes. It will be straight after the next time you shower (without braiding it).
I braid my hair wet (after a shower), and take it out when dry. It comes out like this:
It would be rather straight otherwise. To take the waves out, just wash your hair again, and don't braid it.
Thanks Jake and Pat S.! Braids sound like a simple solution and I really like the waves in your photo, Pat S. My friend's hair looks similar to yours.
Yeah, I actually have the same kind of long straight hair with a bit of wave and chestnut highlights. The way to accentuate the wave is with products. I've done a lot of modelling and I have to say that if you take Aveda's curl enhancer and mix it in a tiny bit some of their gel (confixor), the result is stunning. I don't know what length you're thinking of, but if it's quite long, then use a few sprays of an aerosol hair spray to add body and volume. I'm a fan of Aveda's line, the products are midrange prices and might cost ya $30-40, but they last for six months or more and are absolutely worth every cent. (Good Chrstmas gift) They are also environmentally friendly. I get a pretty good female reaction too, I think that the scent is an aphrodisiac.
ciao
Thank you Johnny for advice. And thanks everyone else! Sorry for not explaining better, his hair is elbow-length. My friend won't use hairspray though, because it gives him split ends, (it does the same for my hair, grr!), but I will recommend those other hair products to him. Maybe even get him something as a gift. (what a great idea) It's also good to know that those products are environmentally friendly. I dont mind paying a bit more for good quality and clear consciousness. By the way Johnny, is that you in the pic? Great hair! So full and shiny! Ciao :)
