Hey all, this is my hair as of now.
I am concerned that the erratic curling is due to a trim I made myself (stupidly) using (somewhat) dull scissors 2 months ago, or if this is just the 'awkward phase' everyone talks about.
Please tell me, is this what hair with split-ends does?
thanks,
donjuan
It is a combination of both in your case. Please stay away from dull sissors at all costs. You have wonderful hair to work with despite the Awkward Stage just beginning. One can only but imagine how glorious a mane you could be able to grow with hair like that.
If I were you, now that you have done what you have, I would go to a Salon tomorrow and get a trim. After that just let the hair grow by itself for a long long time (2 years at least) and you will find that it does great all by itself. You may want to have "minor" trims along the way (every 8 months or so?) to check for Split-Ends or you may not.
Good luck to you. But please get the damage that was done by using dull sissors attended to at once.
Hi Justin,
What does "get a trim" mean? What should I say to the hairdresser? Should I get the back completely shaved off? Should I tell her to cut the back short? Everything short? What can be done to remove the hairs that have split?
2 years?? Ok, I am a pharmacy student; I'm going to be working in a pharmacy by April, and there is no way I will be allowed to work looking like a bum (i.e. suffer through the awkward phase again). I was hoping to pass this phase by April, so it wouldn't be an issue.
Oh, what I mess I'm in. I wish I found this board long ago..
You don't look like a bum. It seems to me that your mind is preoccupied with split-ends. Leave your hair alone and just let it grow. As for the trim , Well , It means to trim the ends of the hair. You go to the hairdresser and tell her/him to trim the ends(make sure they cut just centimeters and not inches off your hair.). Ask for a dusting . That's just another term. Make sure the hairdresser is a trustworthy person.
