hey all, i just registered here- and as seems customary when introducing oneself on this board, i included a pic. it has been ~ 2mo. since i would have normally gotten a haircut and is already longer than i've ever had it.
as i'm sure many of us do when navigating into unknown waters- i started searching the internet for all the info i could find about hair care, styles, and just general info about growing hair out. eventually it was inevitable that i find this board. i thought i'd quickly try and get some info from here and move on, but instead i found myself returning here often- keeping up with updates. i found it has a unique feel and flow that i find entertaining in addition to having longhair advice... definitely a goto board while i'm on my longhair journey.

p.s. -- does any longhair here remember if they had similar hair to mine when theirs was short? if ne1 does it would be killer to see a pic of their hair now... like looking into the future.. thanks!
Welcome , Hop on in Mister.E.Bums. Your hair certainly reminds me of my hair at that stage. About four month's into the "growing-my-hair-out" process , It looked somewhat like yours. As it gained some length , I discovered it was wavy. Incredible. Now , My hair looks nothing like yours. Your hair seems to have fine characteristics and seems straight. I think the awkward stage should be a breeze for you. Well , hang in there and bite the bullet. Never let anyone bring you down with harsh comments regarding your hair. Grow it as long as you want By hook or by crook!!!!!!!!!
Dear Mr. E--
You are way ahead of many of us when we started. You have ahead of you a wonderful journey which may involve some pot holes and traffic jams, but I am convinced that you will never regret taking this pathway to natural manhood. There have been times wehn I fear what others would think, and sometimes those are people who have power over us. But over time I have realized that my inhibitions have been internalizations of the common culture, and not coming from any sane person with whom I wold wish to associate. Now I take pleasure in being a long ahir man, still in a minority, amazingly less and less so.
I take such pleasure in my long hair, that I hope the day never comes that I must cut it in order to maintain an individual identity over against my common culture -- unless my culture by that time has become just, fair, honest, playful, accepting of differences, and concerned about the welbing of everyone.
Hey, welcome to the Hyperboard! Your hair is just slightly longer than mine when I started growing it about 7-7.5 months ago, though yours looks to be a little straighter than mine. Then again, you may discover you have some wave as it gets longer. Anyway, best of luck to you on your growth! =)

I agree with James and Chris. It's hard to tell how wavy it is until it grows out a bit more. Ideally (in my opinion anyway), you'll want hair that is mostly straight (so it's manageable), but just wavy enough to have some texture.
Good luck on your journey; you're a good looking guy and will probably look good no matter what hairstyle you choose. Your hair is also longer on the top than on the back or sides to start with, which I think is a definite plus.

Welcome aboard Mr. Bums! Your looks like it should behave it's self through the awkward stage pretty well, but even if it doesn't, Don't give up! It only gets better! And if your family starts on the "You look better, younger/older, smarter,etc.." kick, just ignore them. Not everyone has the same opinion on hair whether it be short as a buzzcut or as long as your knees. Just hang in there!
Good luck and enjoy the ride!
Bruce
