I remember this question being asked TONS of times when I was first growing my hair long. Does anyone know what causes this? And is it damaging? The reason I'm asking now is because the other night I washed my hair and while it was wet i hand combed it back while putting leave in conditioner in it; then I put a hat over it and left it that way for a few hours then comb it down flat. My scalp hurts when I push the hair back... there are no tangles or anything so I can only guess this occurs from having the hair going "against the grain" for a period of time... you think this is damaging?
I don't know if it is damaging, but it seemed to happen when my hair was gresey.
yea i get this around my grown from the hair running down the back of my head(possibly against the grain)...im concerned it might do something similar to MPB
This happens to me as well. I like change while I grow my hair out, so I often change styles (basically where I part it). I switched from a middle part to a side part, and my scalp hurt for days along the partline. Hope its not damaging i seem to change my part every month.
...just below the scalp the root area is very complex. When you
comb your hair in a new direction, it can cause temporary soreness in some people...but it won't damage anything.
