I went for a maintenance trim yesterday and I was told my hair was starting to look unhealthy and a good and cheap way to put moisture back into my hair is to put olive oil in it for a few hours before I shower. I've heard this treatment lots of times before but didn't try it.
Anyway...I tried it tonight and there already seems like a difference after only one treatment. It's softer and shinier. Has anyone else tried this?
Did it make much of a difference after multiple treatments?
I have never heard of that. I have heard of putting mayonaise in your hair for the same reason though. I never got around to trying it though because i couldn't stand the thought of having nasty mayo all over my head lol. But olive oil seems like it'd be worth a try, and i can't see how it could cause any harm. I might just give it a shot.
For the past 5 - 6 years I've used beneficial oils on my hair, --- but AFTER shampooing and conditioning, rather than before. I only use a little bit (about the size of a coin in my hand), massaging the oil into the lower half of my hair only (especially at the very ends).
I like the idea of applying an oil to the hair before, though. Sounds like it worked well for you. I'll give it a try...
Thanks for the info!

I had an aunt whom swore by olive oil and that was many moons ago. I did try it once and it did add moisture, but the problem was that I couldn't get the stuff out! I mean it was there for the long haul. Perhaps I used too much. I think that a hot oil treatment might work just as well, but the olive oil thing might just be the ticket for some.
Yeah, I found it to be a bit hard to get out as well. I had to wash my hair like 4 times to get it out, but it feels and looks healthier. Almost seems straighter too, but I guess that's just because the frizzies are gone and it's less puffy.
I find using olive oil as a deep conditioner works great AFTER shampooing.....leave it in as long as you can, then RINSE it completely or else you will find cats following you around ! HA!
Since we keep lots of olive oil around for cooking, I use it also for my hair. It does do a good job; leave it on for a couple of hours once a week or so.

I've been thinking about trying this too. So, I did. It's only been 20 minutes so we'll see. Kind of cool to be trying something new. I'm hoping it will tame the frizzies that often crop up on my wavy hair; especially on the sides below the ears. Is this how Segal always feels? Ha - Bruce'ster
I tried using olive oil as a leave-in over a year or two ago and used waaaay too much. My hair had a cool texture to it but it felt really weird. At the time I liked it, but I haven't experimented with it since. Jojoba is what I use these days and it's mighty decent stuff. :)
One thing you can try doing is heating up (not too hot) some oil (olive or whatever) and applying it to your hair before shampooing. That's called a hot oil treatment and it works pretty well. I've only done this once before and it was with some special V05 brand hot oil treatment stuff, but I noticed good results instantly.
Here's a link to the stuff I used. It was somewhat cheap (olive oil would've been cheaper and probably given the same results) and easy to do. I used the moisture treatment.
