my family is bugging me to thin my hair for church :(( are there any techniques out there to make the hair appear thinner without resorting to scissors?(besides a ponytail).thanks!!!!
Are you dependent on your family? If not you can extend your middle finger at them, but if so maybe try to comb it back with gel, it makes hair look thin...
Gosh Tai Fu , That is a very hostile thing to do. Well Jacob , I suggest you get yourself some tresemme sleek de-frizz gel and drown your hair. It contains no alcohols whatsoever so don't worry. Hang in there and good luck brother!!
chris~
Since you mentioned your hair is like mine, I'd suggest that you try using a conditioner and slick it back that way instead of gel. It'll make your hair feel softer and keep it lightly moistened longer than gel (including non-alcoholic aloe-vera)
haha...yeah..I'll first give em a bear, then give em the fingers, and then give em a stone cold stunner!!lmao!!
well..yes I am dependent :(( i'm a full-time student and work part time,I don't earn enough to be independent yet..*sigh*
Anything that will straighten it and make it lay down will also make it look thinner. Not washing for a couple days will build some oil and may make it look thinner, but this is likely to cause other problems. Jojoba is gentle and may do this too, but is expensive. Gels are said to damage hair, but during one of my earlier grow-outs I used generic gel bought from CVS (a pharmacy chain in the eastern US). I didn't notice any damage. My hair, of course, is not as wavy and thick as yours, but a liberal dose of gel definitely did the trick, and it was a similar situation: I was attending the baptism of a friend's baby, and didn't want to look too wild. This was a one-time thing though. Doing this every Sunday may be a hassle, but if it's the only way to avoid the knife, then do it. You've certainly gotten a lot farther than I ever did when I was in my teens.
hey...if you don't mind me asking...at what length was your hair at the time...and how much did you use?I just need a general idea on how much to use (never used gel on my long-ish hair.I only used gel when I was short-haired)
It was probably just approaching shoulder length -- long enough to get in my face; but too short for a tail. The kind of gel I used said to have your hair be damp when you use it, oh, and also you need to comb it down. If you can't get a comb through your hair, gel might actually make it stand up more. You should definitely do a test run.
I would have to recommend Gel and comb back in this situation, theres a gel out there I forgot the name but it doesnt have alcohols in it so it isnt AS bad for it.
Don't even THINK about giving in to family pressures to thin that awesome thick hair of yours! Can you use gel or something and slick it back behind ears for this occasion. I know that I hate to put anything other than shampoo or condtioner in my hair but one time with gel should not hurt.
Heeping my fingers crossed for you,
David
hey man, thanks for the support!!itm means a lot.I'm NOT considering cutting it.I beleive I've convinced them that if I style it,it will look decent.well, take care David and happy holidays!! :)
I made the mistake of thinning a while back, and now I have a bunch of fly-aways that really piss me off.
Have you tried Sunsilk's Anti-Poof 24/7 creme? I tried it just a couple days ago; what you do is you put it on your hair after a shower, and it will prevent your hair from getting poofy as it dries. I found that it worked somewhat -granted, it was no miracle- and it worked better if you put it on with a leave-in conditioner, and make the conscious effort NOT to touch your hair while it's drying. Then, once it's dry, apply a few dabs of smoothing pomade.
Wish you luck man!
Hi,
First, I wouldn't yield - period.
Second, to answer your question, I'd wear a pony tail and use gel to make it look thinner. In that case, you might be able to avoid arguing.
A third thing: Religion can be misused as a huge guilt-inducing device - a SERIOUS and UN-CHRISTIAN ABUSE. I say that, being a Christian myself. (Well, there is real guilt in other issues, but that is absolutely not the point here)
Being a member of a Christian parish has to do with being accepted by God just as the person you are. It is not about doing something with your hair that makes you unhappy in the long run - or do you want to associate church with not being allowed to be yourself?? My faith would be too precious for that.
If your parents don't stop, you could simply walk out whenever they bug you. Or, you could tell them (or whoever bugs you) that thinning destroys the hair style, and that you don't make decisions like that "just for them".
Or, you might even say that Jesus wouldn't love you any less because of your hair. Your hair isn't theirs!
DON'T decide ANYTHING before Christmas and New Year's day are over. If they pressure you, just ask them why they want a particular hairstyle from you, and then say that you will take some time thinking about what they say.
All the best, have a great Christmas, and a good start of 2007.
Hans-Uwe
I'm not a christian anymore but some of the bible passages have still stuck with me.
Any preacher preaches care not what the world thinks, and only focus on what god thinks. Yes the Church can be "the world". The christian god cares not whether you are black, white, mexican, have long hair or short hair or are bald. Christianity teaches god cares much more about the appearence of the heart, than your outwardly apparence./
