Hi , I was thinking about buying an XBOX 360 but became wary due to negative comments about the system. I read that it overheats and dies within 3 months. Is this correct? Does anyone here own an XBOX 360? Would you recommend buying one? If so , What are the pros and cons? .....All help is appreciated. Thanks!
My brother bought a 360 back in early October. There were a couple times where it wouldn't seem to start, but after a couple minutes of pushing the button, it fired up. One time it made a funny sound while doing so, so we shut it off, turned it on again, and it didn't do it anymore. We figured that maybe it had just gotten really cold, and those are the only times it's done that. Last time was probably early-November, and we've had no problems with it since.
As for overheating, my brother has played it for a few hours straight, and it sits in a small section of our entertainment stand with the front and one side open for ventilation. So far, no problems with overheating. Perhaps if you played for several hours straight and left the game paused for long periods of time, but casual playing probably won't result in the console melting down.
We only have one game for it, SAINTS ROW, but the graphics are sweet as hell and the free roaming option is a load of fun, running around and causing chaos and mayhem. I don't play current games very much (I'm more old school), but it seems like it's a pretty good system from what I have played. Graphics for some games are pretty damn good, too.
Well thats great to hear. It seems that you are lucky. The vast majority of 360 owners have had problems. check out this link.

well,I don't know about overheating, but I would buy one (if I had the money) just for Halo.that's how addicted I am to that game!!:P.
to hell with halo. all i want it for is for wwe vs smackdown 2007. the graphics are amazing!!!!!!!
lol!!!I sorta gave up on the wrestling games,I suck at 'em.Never could get the moves right :((( but I'll NEVER get tired watching it!!!
...at all when I used to have one.
I sold it, primarily due to the fact that I hardly ever used it, but never had any problems with regard to overheating or anything. It worked fine.
The old ones are 90% sure to break down after maybe a year. The new ones though are much more reliable. I don´t think there are any old ones left to buy so you should be fine.
It´s a great console. I was about to save for the Ps3 first but I bought the 360 instead and I don´t regret it at all. There are several kickass games and more to come. Also the online mode is the best out there. Hundereds of hours of fun for me. :)
Yea man. I heard that the ones manufactured in 2005 had major technical issues. I am definitely going to buy it. I suppose i will just buy the extended warranty for it.
Sounds like a plan. I recommend Oblivion, Ghost Recon 3, Gears of War, Splinter Cell, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and Call of Duty 2 and 3. Great games! :)
I have an Xbox 360 and I use it all the time. It's my DVD player (hopefully soon to be my hd-dvd player as well) and I game rather excessively at times. I've not had any problems with it at all. I use it to keep in touch with a great many of my friends back in Florida, and I have made several new friends via xbox live. I think it's the best gaming system that's ever been made (and I've played almost all of them). 2007 is shaping up to be the year of the Xbox, so if you get one now you will almost certainly not regret it. I'm a huge fan-boy of Xbox, so you might take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I say you cannot go wrong with the 360. Just for the live component alone it's worth it's money. And just my extra two cents, I think some of the best games going right now are Oblivion (rpg), Rainbow Six: Vegas (shooter), Gears of War (action/shooter), and if you like more laid-back games Viva Pinata is actually very enjoyable... like of like a trippy "Sims" game, of sorts. And Halo 3... coming up in 07. That's enough reason rigth there to get the system!! I hope you end up with a 360! Have a Merry Christmas, an Xbox 360 Christmas ;)
Just a couple more things I wanted to add, if you are going to shell out the money for an Xbox 360 you should probably get the $399 version. The wireless controllers work fabulously on the 360 and you'll really want to have a hard drive in your system, most especially if you use xbox live and if you play Oblivion and/or want to download any updates. I personally think they should just take the $299 version off the market since it's so limited compared to what you can do with the hard drive version. That's just my opinion, but it's one that you can take quite seriously...
Also, you'll probably want to invest in the play & charge kit for the controller which comes with a rechargable battery and a cable you connect via usb to the xbox to recharge the controller, otherwise you'll end up buying a lot of double A batteries. I think the play & charge kit is like $20 (usa price).
Anyway, if you have any other questions let me know, I'm somewhat of a fanatic and self-professed expert on the 360!
Also if you want to know what a good website for video game information is, I recommend Ign.com I think overall they are the best. I have no idea how famous that site is, but they deserve to be regarded as the best gaming & media information site on the web, because, well, they are! (that I know of)
