One of my kids snapped this yesterday. Hair was in a pretty decent mood. As you can see, I've been letting my goatee grow. Turned 47 this December. Began growing my hair in October of 2000. I generally keep it trimmed between upper shoulders and mid-back. right now it's just above mid-back.
Hope this season of "lights" (Solstice, Christmas, Channukah, Kwanza, Diwali and all) is kind and restful to you.

Hair is looking great Robert. :-)
Festivus? :)
Looking good.
Powerful man. No need to cut till ragged, in my humble opinion.
Looking great Robert!
Happy 47th and Happy Holidays!

Robert,
You bear a passing resemblance to talented British comedian, Bill Bailey, if you don't mind me saying.
Merry Christams and Happy 47th, Robert. The hair's looking great! All the best in the new Year.
David
Your hair looks great. Seems like just the right length for you.
Congratulations!
I like the length that you keep. I'll be keeping my hair at that length also (should be there in about 3 months).
Peace
Vince
Looking good there, Robert, not only your hair, but fit and trim.

Thanks, Walter, especially on the last score. I was just getting ready to head for the gym. Holiday food abounds, and I've not tasted any that I didn't like (and hardly found any that I haven't tasted!).

Mehercule! Tamquam semper, optime, optime. Dies caesariei bonae est ipsa donum! Et, videris modo gnatus esse XXXVII annis.
Vale, Bragi
My, oh my. for those of you who are a bit rusty in your Latin, Bragi has issued a fun-loving expletive in Latin, and then said: as always, very very good. A day of good long-flowing hair is a gift itself. And, you see to be 37.
So, first, my thanks for the nice complements, both this one in Latin and all the other encouraging words that all of you have offered.
And then another. Here I am, a Latin teacher for nearly 20 years, a Latin student for 33 and working on a PhD in the language, and Bragi has taught me a new word. "caesareis--long-flowing hair". It's origins is in Sanskrit and as you can see, the word Caesar may also be rooted in it, which may suggest that this clan was know for long flowing hair (my speculation only).
Maximias gratias, Bragi, sed, mehercule, quomodo hoc verbum invenisti? :)
Robert
How did I come across this word? HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAA!
Well, I knew that the words for hair were either 'crines' or 'capilli', but I was not entirely sure of the gender of 'crines' as it is 3rd declension and you just never know with that one. I was going to use 'crines'. So, I got out the "Cassell's Latin-English Dictionary," 1987 edition, and checked it, then I cross-referenced the entry for 'hair' in the English section. I saw 'caesaries' there and decided that this word conveyed the best sense of what I sought to say. I really like the word since it is 5th declension, my favorite one, and it is interesting that the word 'Caesar' probably does come from it. I always forget that Sanskrit has lots of cognates and similarities with Latin as well. Unfortunately, I don't know any of it although I love the Devanagari scr ipt; it is so pretty written out.
What was interesting too was that right below it the word, 'caespes', is listed, meaning turf or sod (lawn), from which the Spanish 'cesped' comes with the same meaning.
Anyhow, I have seen few references to long hair in Roman writings, but do remember something about "a bottle of Falernian (wine) bottled back in the days when the consuls wore their hair long." I have no idea where I saw that though, perhaps something about Trimalchio's feast.
Tuus amicus, Bragi :)
Hey Robert, Your hair looks great. That is the length that I want mine to be. What is your goal?
Later,
Chris
Hi Chris,
Pretty much my goal is to have longhair that I like to look at and feel comfortable wearing. For me, over the 7 years that I have grown and had long hair, I've come to see that as ranging from below my shoulders down to mow mid-back.
When it gets longer than low mid back, two things happen that I just don't like. First, it gets caught in things, mostly at work, mostly chairs, etc. Second, at that length, it begins to look thin and "scraggly". I like a thicker look for my hair. I have generally thick hair, but rather fine hair, so the longer it gets and further away from my head, it gets very thin looking,
So, there it is. If I get it trimmed 2-3 times a year, I keep it in that range. I got about 5 inches trimmed when I came back from the summer in Italy. That was around August 1. I had it trimmed up to a couple of inches beyond my shoulders. Now it's almost mid-back. I suspect that sometime next spring--or early summer, I'll get it trimmed again.
Robert
Hi Robert, I think that's the best way of looking at length goals, comfortability. Mine seems to get caught in alot of things also.
I think that I am going to try to stay in the range simular to yours as my hair is almost the same, thick and brown.
But I still need a few months of growing before a even out trim,
then I can make my wife happy:) and use that gift card.. Lol.
Later,
Chris
That is a very decent picture there Robert. You look quite distinguished with that goatee and it looks great. A happy birthday too you as well. All the best for a happy and prosperous 2007.
A very good picture of you Robert, you look very confident and relaxed and happy, what more can one ask for :)
Congratulations on your 47th and I hope you had a terrifi holiday.
Hi Robert,
good to see someone who has finished the first 47% of his life with such good hair - and good to see your kids are supportive...
All the best for 2007!
