Hello there guys!
As promised, I finally decided to post pictures of my very first finished and hand made, oficial piece of clothing =)
Ther T-Shirt is a work for university, for the discipline of fashion design. The purpose was to build a t-shirt based on a main trend for this season (the trends were napoleonic, bubble, leyring, oversize and metallics). I picked up the bubble, and napoleonic.
Here's what I ended up with =) I am really happy with the results =P Sorry for the bad modeling lol hehe...
One of the shoulders is meant to be off of the shirt, and one sleeve is removable, and bubble shaped =)
Here's from the back
This one shows the possibility of geting the shirt straight in the body, and removing the bubble sleeve
Here it is =P
Just a more relaxed pose
And finally, somewhat artistic =P
Feel free to drop in all the coments, even if negative =) I want honest opinions =D
Thank's for reading, I hope you liked the pictures =) I'm glad I can post pictures twice this month hehe...
See ya!!
P.S. - The second part of this work will be a photoshooting with a t-shirt made by one of my classmates. I'll maybe post the pictures when I take them =) Ther model will be my long haired cousin Carina, from those pictures of beautyfull gorgeous long classic lenght hair I sometimes post =)

Great first design, David!
The removeable blubble sleeve is quite novel! I think you did a fine job preventing the fabric of the shirt from stretching when sewing the whole thing together. (I know I tend to get a bit too ambitious with the pedal and end up pulling to much on the fabric -- fine flexible, stretcheable fabric like TShirt Cotton would end up looking twisty and warped.)
Keep us all posted.

You know, I am not so good at actually making T shirts from scratch, but I want to get an airbrush/compressor setup so I can not only do guitars with it, I could also airbrush T shirts... but how do I get some idea as to what to put on it? I wanted to do it to some of the tie dye shirts I got...
Hey, TaiFu.
I am glad to see your internet doesn't seem to be affected after the earthquakes that snapped (according to my CBC new report today) many of the underwater telecommunication cables.
As for designs, the options are limited only by your skill at using an airbrush.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
I dont know why for some reason my internet isn't affected by the earthquake. I only felt a minor tremor and it kinda woke me up since I live on the 7th floor. Man this is like the first time I actually felt any Earthquake since Texas isn't known for being earthquake prone. I think they should like find an effective way of communicating wirelessly because being reliant on cable sucks when there is so many variables to consider... As for my airbrush skill, I am buying a Paasche VL type airbrush because I had one before and that's what I am comfortable with, however the only problem is getting spare parts should something break because they only sell Japanese brand airbrush here... I only figured I could buy an airbrush rather than a spray gun because I could use it for something other than guitars.... but I am not really good at drawing stuff because while I can draw structures pretty well, I really suck at drawing animals or persons...
I know nothing of fashion so can't really comment on your project, but I do want to ask you something. I occasionally watch Fashion TV (for the models, admittedly) and some of the clothing I see totally baffles me. Is everything we see on the catwalk actually available to the (very rich) public? Does anyone actually wear the more outrageous designs, or is there a certain element to the design world where creativity is showcased without necessarily the intention of people wearing it? Fashion is a bizarre world to me.
Thanks, and good luck with this project.
Matt
Based on what I've seen on Project Runway, the fashion world has two different faces:
One for showing off the designer's artistry, and
One for showcasing something meant to be worn
If you see something outrageous, it was more than likely designed just for the runway.
Very nice Joao, you have done some truly interesting designs there and they look very nice. Nice to see the mane in full force too. Hope everything is going great at University and that you are having a great festive season and all the best for a happy new year.

Just when I thought your clothing couldn't get any more awesome and unique, you go and post these photos. You definitely have talent, João, and you should be very proud of it. =) Please do keep us updated on your future works and feel free to share the final products. You're just plain cool... no two ways about it!

Hi Joao just thought I'd weigh in on your post as long as you asked for comments. In my opinion I think that shirt came out great for a first attempt!Even though its very unusual and not something you'd wear everyday it is unique as I love the way the lines taper inwards toward the waist for a very slim appearance even though the shirt is loose fitting.I gather that is an original design by you as I'd like to see some of your future works.I have to admit I did not know you were studying fashion but certainly it looks like you have a knack for it based on how you designed that shirt. As for me I'm currently into designer jeans by Dior Homme as I've bought several pairs of his jeans. In fact I was checking out some of the catwalk pics of his upcomming products and some of the models are wearing some wild shirts as well.He also uses longhaired male models which I thought was cool.I'll attach a link to the page so you can check it out.Anyway great work and keep it up!Mark

Interesting design, kind of a hint of retro 80s. Not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. Have you worn this shirt anywhere yet? If so, what sort of reaction did you get? (and I'm sure you'd get some, it's quite distinctive).
I'd be interested in seeing your next design. Hope I don't miss it, as I don't get a chance to check this board as often as I used to.
My new blog (with more pictures)
Honestly I know nothing of fashion, but Joao I think its looks beautiful, but not something I would wear. It is unique and very interesting I look forward to seeing more.
Hey Joao
I never knew this about you. You are SO ARTISTIC!
The shirt looks great. I love it!
Justin~
interesting! Gives a "princely" feel without a ton of gold-braidy-froo-froo.
The puffy sleeve is good, because it helps carry the boldness of the horizontal cording on the front.
I like the angled slash of trim anchoring one side of the cording and emphasizing the masculine v-shape of the torso. Doing it on both sides would have been too much, so good job on the restraint.
The cording and its anchors seem a little odd on such light, floppy fabric and the side without the trim seems a little like a suspension bridge built out into the sky. Brainstorming: Maybe a little subtle anchoring by painting on some shapes underneath that echo the overall effect that the cording evokes, in a shade just a little darker than the shirt base itself would give it some "mid-ground" to pull it together a little more.
BTW, what is "leyring"?

olá joão!
também sou de lisboa e adorei o teu cabelo e a t´shirt
esta fantastica!
ps- tb tenho e adoro cabelos compridos...
Hi Joao,
I think you created a fascinating t-shirt. By the way, the style does look best on long-haired guys!
Just an idea: Maybe this goes best with some type of kilt? Just an idea, I think there are meant to be more daring experiments... perhaps, a very plain type of kilt would go best with this t-shirt...
Indeed, it seems this is not intended to be worn every day, but for special occasion, a dancing evening, or for dating?
I wish you lots of luck and loads of fun for 2007!

Hi
Thanks for sharing your work. :-)
I liked your choice of gray & purple rather than red & gold and black & gold (Think of some of Michael Jackson's costumes) Purple is a true royal color!
I'm not crazy about the off the shoulder look - it makes me think retro 80's, Flashdance(1983). :-P I think it detracts from your creativeness & the originality in your work.
I enjoyed seeing you model your shirt, I look forward to seeing more of your projects. :-)
João David, you could add to the Napoleonic look by braiding your hair in cadenettes, a style worn by French Hussars in the early 1800s. Their hair had small sections braided over their sideburns. I learned about the somewhat impractical but historically accurate style watching the movie The Duellists. Those braids looked silly bouncing around as the characters fought with swords.
Your design makes me smile and not just because I adore purple. The removable sleeve looks like it could work as an emergency ponytail holder, something no longhair should be without.
