For a long time now my hair has been getting thinner and looks, well, crap. My hair is naturally thin and fine anyway, but I am almost certain I have dermatitis/seborrheic ezcema on my scalp which I believe has contributed heavily to further loss. Whether through traction or the condition itself, I shed a fair amount and as a result my hair is a mess of short and long hair strands. Sadly even a significant trim would still leave me with the same mess since it's not just a matter of thin ends, it's the whole 'do. It is yet to be diagnosed by a doctor but I had eczema as a kid, and my brother has the same scalp condition, so it makes sense. I would settle for a trim and stay at shoulder length while treating it, but...
...I may lose the hair altogether for convenience purposes. Basically, I want to delve heavily into fitness and martial arts. In the past 18 months I have found myself holding back the frequency of workouts due to the inconvenience of washing my hair all the time. For example I favour early morning cardio but I can't possibly wash my hair at 7am and be ready for classes by 9am without enduring more hassle than I'm prepared to put up with. The same goes for any other last minute situations during the day. Long hair would also prove fairly troublesome with martial arts.
On the down side, my hair is part of who I am. When I started growing it was an image thing but now I really don't see myself with short hair; it would feel wrong. While I don't care about looking good, that doesn't mean I want to look stupid which is how I feel currently about my hair.
Also, I think I use the length of my hair to show others how long I've gone without a cut, like it's a contest. I most certainly don't like the idea of throwing away 40 months of growth in a matter of minutes, but I may benefit from ridding myself of this 'trimless streak'. I'm too attached I can't envision myself going through with it, however.
One thing for certain is that I need about 6 inches taken off to neaten it up and re-adjust to my current taste in length. September 2003 was my last cut of any kind, so I'm overdue. It is mid back at the moment so I will probably take it up to the shoulders to see how I feel, then depending on how manageable it is decide what to do from there. In the event that I do cut it all off, I am sure I will regrow it to about 10 inches once my scalp is fine, and I have my fitness goals nailed.
I'm sure this post isn't very fluid, it is nearly 2am and I'm throwing my thoughts out as they come.
Matt
perhaps a pic would help...you're probably being to critical of your mane,as we all are from time to time...
I agree with CerebralAssasin. Maybe you should post a pic. I'm sure it's not as bad as you think it is.
I'd just like to remark on your username. This is a long shot but you're not actually Vogg are you? Haha. I've seen Decapitated three times now; he's an amazing guitarist.
Haha nope, I am not. You're not the first to ask actually. I will see them for the third time myself in February (sadly all post-Sauron). I would hope Vogg doesn't share my intentions to cut. Hopefully only Vitek got the recession gene in that family!
To the other guys, I'll try to take a decent photo that shows the mess properly next time I wash my hair.
Matt
I've seen them once, and it was the best show ive been to:). Vitek, Vogg and Martin are cool guys, I met them after the show and got some pictures with them:P.

As for the hair, I, too agree with the others. A picture would help a lot:).
Hi Matt,
I agree with the others, a picture would help us give our thoughts a lot more effectively. Have you thought about washing the night before so that you have more time in the AM for your activities?--just a thought.
David
Hi David,
I'll try to get a photo up later. Yes, currently I do all my hair washing at night. What I meant by my morning example was that, say I worked out at 6am, I'd need to shower and wash/dry my hair in time for going about my day at 9am or so. Seeing as this would be a daily thing for me, you can see that eventually the whole process would get tiresome. Due to the thinness of my hair, even one strenuous cardio session leaves it ready for a wash again, so I can't simply shower and avoid the hair.
Thanks,
Matt
I would try Denorex or Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo first. These coal tar shampoos are usually very good at controling seborrheic dermatitis and various other scalp conditions. Nizoral shampoo might help as well.
